FD w/ 300rwhp - quick enough to beat C5?

I've recently come across a car for sale where it dynoed 300 to the rear wheels. I was wondering, just how fast is that? I'm assuming that's more than enough to take on a C5 Corvette as well as a 911, unmodded Supra, etc.

Anybody who is making around this much power, can you chime in?

300 rwhp FD will beat a C5 unless the driver sucks.

I'm making 300wrhp @10psi.

pretty fast for street use, in my opinion...but my fastest car before was a 91 FC.

I've raced an old 911 big wing, don't know if it was turbo, but I spanked it...I don't race much.

C5 - no problem.

I did some highway races with a C5 when my car had 326 RWHP. I was slightly faster, but it wasn't a huge difference at those speeds. It was a friend's C5 and we had two people in each car. I think the C5 was totally stock at that point.

300rwhp 3rd gen and a C5 are going to be a fairly close match. I'll cay it'll come down to the driver. Also, it depends on what year C5 cause they changed up the intake manifold and stuff after 2000 or so and they make more power. Seems like they kept the rating the same but they actually make more as seen by dyno's.

They put down around 320-330 I believe but have a little more weight so it pretty much would even out with a 300rwhp 7

Hmm, seems kind of weird. I would think that with that much additional horsepower it could easily handle a C5. I guess those Corvettes are faster than they feel.

In the few tussles with C5's that i've had, we've been fairly even through the first two and a half gears, then it got a little interesting. I definitely pulled harder after 5,000 rpm in 3d and 4th gear. But, in the lower rpms of those gears(and I obviously didn't spend much time in the low rpms), it was dead even, if not a Vette advantage
I would think that a 300rwhp FD would take one. Who knows though. As said before, the newer ones put down more power.
Defbringer, they are faster than they feel. The FD actually can feel faster than it is. I think it has to do with where our power is, how it comes on, and the general turbo rush.

id think an fd (w/ 300hp) would take a stock c5, considering the power to weight ratio.
fd: 2800lbs-300hp
c5: 3200lbs-350hp
a 400lb weight advantage goes to the 7, but the c5 has 50 more hp and 1 more gear, even though one more gear probably doesnt really help. **** i dunno. but i think it would be a great race either way. like previously stated, it really depends on driver skill.

Lightbulb

My old man has put down 290 to the ground at 12 psi on a strong reman motor, rebuilt turbos, intake, dp, cb, and pfs box. He pulls on C5s and new M3s, and claims to have "hung in there" (stayed within a car length) with a Z06 until about 120 mph.

Stock C5s should be no problem for a 300 rwhp FD if the driver isn't comatose.

with my current setup I do the 40 to 140mph sprint in 14 seconds flat.

The new 8.3L Viper SRT-10 does that same mph spread in 15.1 seconds.

I don't have a huge single, and my R1 is a perfectly streetable daily driver.......

LS1 F-bodies maybe... but a LS1 6-speed vette will run mid 12s, and a Z06 (02 or newer ) is capable of high 11s stock.. (not the norm, but it has been done on more than one occasion) C5 corvettes are fast....

I beat a Z06 at the dragstrip with only 301RWP, I don't think anyone is tripping.

My experience with LS1s were similar to others comments - up to around 70-80 mph or the first 2.5 gears LS1 powered cars could hang close by but after that it wasn't close at all. C5s are nothing to scoff at - stock they are definitely capable of 12s (2000+) I remember looking at dyno sheets of stock C5s putting down 310-320 rwhp with the MN6 tranny.

A 300 rwhp FD that's not riced out with a kit or heavy rims will pull a stock C5 but it won't decimate it. C5s have their advantage with the amount of torque they have throughout the powerband. If you're not a good driver, you can be had. I was running upgraded twins in my car so a single turbo is not needed to beat C5s

I think that beating Vipers as people have been saying here is possible.
I've gone against Vipers(not the new ones though), when I had boost issues, and did not get get beat by as much as some people might think. I would have really liked to get a chance at them again when my car was running right.
