FD vs FC
I want to know the difference between the two cars. The 1990 fc and the later fd. I don't want to knock any of the cars I just would like to know what Madza did differently when they spent millions on designing the fd. Apart from the body!
Please I would only like to know like for like in stock form.
Things like.
- Engine
- Chassis
- Handling
- Weight
- Braking
Any other stuff
I know if you spend money it will uprate parts on any car. But are people just buying the fd because of the looks, You see my point?:p I would like to know where that money would need to be spent to get both cars on par, fc to fd or fd to fc.
Thanks:p :p

The 1990 came with:
1.3 160 HP or a 1.3 200 HP wankel. Only turbo FC's had the 200hp 1.3, while the GTU, GXL, GXL 2+2 had the 160hp.
It had either a 4-speed auto or a 5-speed manual. The auto wasn't available on the turbo.
1993 came with:
1.3 255hp wankel.
The tranny was either a 4-speed auto or 5-speed manual.

Ex fd *****
Also the fd has double wishbone suspension front & rear vs Strut front & Multilink rear for fc's. all fd's also have the Torsen type LSD.
the Body/Chassis of the fd is also much stiffer and significantly lighter.

I've owned an FB, FC, and FD. Hard to answer this question in short. Best thing I can tell you is to buy the book THE MAZDA RX-7: Mazda’s Legendary Sports Car 1993-95 http://www.speednation.com/3GYamaguchi.htm. This explains how the FD was conceived through final development.
Biggest difference is that the FD is a world class sportscar, while the FC is a sporty car, good in it's own right but not world class.
I enjoyed over 100k mi on my '86 GXL. Great everyday car, but lacking in power and handling.
The FD has the power and handling, but is not as good an everyday car.
I'd say the FC is more reliable. I beat the crap out of it for 135k mi everyday before the motor went. Doubt that an FD would last 1/2 as long with this much abuse. If you have an FD, you'll fall in love with it's looks. An FD is not practical if you have to carry stuff. The FC hatch can hold 3 times what the FD does.
Get an FC for a daily driver and keep the FD for pleasure...

Now that the daily/weekend driver dilemna has been resolved by rotary-tt, I was wondering more about the aspects fo the daily driver car. How does the FC stack up to similar competition like the MR2 Turbo and 240sx with swap? Prolly more, but just can't remember them all.

So to sum it up! The fd is a better car! Does that mean because the design changes the fd is better or can the fc be made has good when you throw money at it! Or just maybe there two different cars!
The fd been the better package!
Thanks
Ps the weight is almost the same!

It's a completely new car from the ground up. In that respect, wheather(sp?) or not the FC can be made "as good" as the FD depends on how you're going to use it. If you mean an all out race car (street or drag), sure, if you dump enough money into a Ford Pinto it can beat anything you put it up against, however, the higher up the ladder you start, the easier it is to get to the top.
If you're talking about a street car, I would be willing to say that it's damn near impossible to make a FC outperform an FD (keeping it street legal) - not to say that it's completely impossible, but it deffinitely wouldn't be easy.
