That question is so vague.

You are comparing 2 totally different cars first off. And 2 different time frames with 2 different technologies.

Even so, id say even so an FD will out do an evo on the course.

i'm intending to go test drive an Evo7 at some stage shortly... if i do that in time i'll let you know. as the last post says... VERY different cars built for very different purposes.

the Evo is a rally car on the street, the FD is a racetrack car on the street.
so, apart from technological advances and based on stock-guesstimates:
Evo will kill the FD on gravel
FD will beat the Evo on the street/track

I mean't street/track set-up.
I know they are in different time frames blah blah but I'm just putting someone in their place.

I believe the FD has a higher PAX rating than the EVO 8 for SCCA Solo (Autocross) competition.

So you're saying stock vs stock?

Id say on the street or even the course, both with decent drivers, the FD will edge out the evo on both.

Both equally modified. Just to keep it equal.

Same power/similar suspension set-up ect.

they both handle exceptionally well, so you're doing fine with handling no matter which you get. but as far as i'm concerned, i swear by awd

I have a celica all-trac ST185 aswell and the handling on that is *****, drives like a FWD car.

Fair enough the EVO is different but it does have all the electronic crap to keep it straight.

I swear by AWD(I have an STI) as well but take any car thats lighter by 400-500 pounds and that advantage of rocketing out of corners is quickly diminished..

Based on that, since the FD is lighter with better distribution, FD ftw.

Plus the FD has 3 doors not like the gay EVO 5 doors

Ok I'm a bit bias towards the FD for obvious reasons but I have never driven an EVO so dont know.

the lighter weight and better weight distrobution in the RX-7 is much better than our STi's, of course. but at the same time there is a certain confidence that comes with the awd. no doubt the RX-7 can handle just as well if not better (rain, gravel, etc aside), but i love the feeling of awd. that's why i stated my opinion about swearing by it.

Any car which tries to steer and propel the car with the same wheels will have some understeer in it (i.e. FWD and AWD). As with any car, it can be dialed out to some extent with work, but that's just physics.

I agree, my all-trac grips quite well to a point and you do get the feeling of confidence. And it'll still go side ways in the wet when your foots on the floor mid corner.

I'm just running stock suspension so that doesn't help.

Well, that wasn't suppose to help; just stating facts. If you get a car which tries to steer and propel with the same wheels, expect some understeer.

Just when i was about to post the same thing, the FD will own that EVo, also there's this vid showing a compeition of a FD, supra, skyline and a EVO8 in rain... guess what? That EVO8 died off before ANY other cars.... of course, the Supra came first, FD second, and skyline was third i believe.... and EVO8 was knocked out during second lap =)

So in conclusion, FD rox the hell outa the EVO8 on tracks.

2 completely different animals. Although they are AWD the Evos computers control the center diff to not allow understeer, but any jackass can drive it horribly enough to induce it. The stock suspension on them is very stiff as well. I've never driven an FD, but don't mock the Evo until you drive one. I thought I would notice the extra weight on it, but it is one awesome machine.

BTW, there's also a difference between the Evos that have the Active Center Differential and those that don't. They are both good, but the ACD makes a good difference in adverse weather conditions.

Don't take one vid and follow it as the gospel. Just because the drivers of the AWD cars lost control or whatever doesn't mean that that's what will always happen. I'll take my Evo out in the rain over my FC ANY day. I'll also race any one of you in a good downpour.

Not true. In Japan, I've read that EVO and Skyline GT-R (R34) are mainly on top as far as the lap times on circuits. (tsukuba, ebisu..etc etc.)
For rear wheel drive cars, fd are in upper rank in those circuits.

This is actually true.
