FD transmission 1-2 Switch function

What does this 1st 2nd switch do in the transmission. It is located under the cover in font of the shifter. When in first of second gear it touches a sensor or solenoid. What does the sensor do? is this to lock you out of 1 st and 2nd gear when speed is so high that a miss shift would be catastrophic?

I am looking to shorten the front back position of my shifter and it may necessitate the removal of this switch. Is it advised?

I believe that sensor is just for emissions purposes. Either that or idle control.

I don't think removing it will make any earth shattering difference.

If im not mistaken that switch communicates with the ecu to vary the timing of certain twin turbo components based on rpm and when they operate. You see in 1st and 2nd gear, the engine revs much faster under boost that switch tells the ecu what gear it's in and alters the rpm to which the prespool solenoids actvate so you get a smooth transision from primary to secondary in those 2 gears. You cant just have a generic rpm and load to activate the turbo solenoids because the system behaves very differently bepending on how fast the engine is reving.
