I was also thinking about that, but i think that since they will only be up at night the gap won't be that noticable. As far as the lights are concerned i don't think that they will be at such an extreme angle that it would stand out, they will look like they'r angled up, you could live with it or smoke out the cover.

That's what I was trying to tell Jim about a while back (post was deleted) about having the lights rise about an inch and a half maybe two so the lights would shine straight(er) threw the lense/cover. My idea was to have the lid come down into the car more so when they pop up the plastic doesn't create a vaccume and so on. But as that point what would it do for you? I'm starting to like the stock pop'ups look and would only want these for better lighting and weight savings...

Just my dime.

as i was pondering the feasibility of this i also had this idea:
If the lighting was adequate with the sleeks being flush with the hood (not popped up in the back) it would be great if we could have the light sink down a couple inches in the back when the
lights are off. This would create an opening to force cooler air into the engine bay; sort of like the lid scoops but much more effective. The only problem with this would be clearance. I
don't know if there will be 2 free inches of clearance under the light. Then i pondered for a while and realized that we could reach the same benefits if the tub of the light (while off) could
raise a few inches in the front. This would also create a scoop to force cool air into the engine bay. This would be the easier method of the two, since it's probable that we can use the same
motor to raise the lights up.

(I wish I could sleep and not stay up thinking about these things.)

I believe yo uare referring to the red FD with the PHOTOSHOPPED NSX lights on it, correct? This was done to give an idea of what that style may look like.

My vote goes for the double-bubble look, much like the NSX and the sketch by HedgeHog.

Still working on it, people. No updates at present, just too many things going on. I'm trying to put all the effort I can into this, but too much of it is out of my control at the moment.

I'm hoping to have a working prototype by the end of May, with any luck, and we'll go from there. Cranking them out once we get something good won't be nearly as difficult as making the first one.

something I found...not too good looking in my opinion but might give you some ideas.
http://www.midtennmiata.com/round_headlights.htm

also a way to mount d2s in the hella lights. Really good, my friend did it awhile ago and it is really good, no glare.

Pretty tight ideas. I wander what would bee the down side of installing aftermarket headlamps? leaks? fogging? poor fitting? poor connections due to rewiring? DOT compliant? I must say they look awesome and unique.

Yes, but people who hammer me with "are they done yet" won't get any...

I have MANY projects going at once, and this is just one of them. I am pushing on people as much as possible, but there are things that are simply and unavoidably out of my control. Other people are not necessarily on "our" time table, and the best shops are constantly busy. This is small time to the people I'm working with, and therefore not their top priority at the moment.

If I had 100 orders to fill, that would be one thing, but since they're working on only one kit for me with no guarantee of future demand, it's a very small job and will take "as long as it takes", because I'm in no real hurry and they know it.

Also... I might point out that not one of you has a cent invested in this so far, so your leverage to press for results is, shall we say... non-existent?

Just want everyone to fully comprehend where we stand. This is MY project, and if you people turn out to be interested, and my goodwill holds out, then YOU will get the chance to get in on the results of one of MY projects. Capisce?

Do you have any money invested? Then whose project is it?

Seriously, I do get tired of being asked. I know that there are quite a few people interested, and I've been trying to move it along as fast as possible, but many people don't understand the difficulties behind actually finding someone to design and fabricate a mass-producible DOT headlight, let alone a mass-producible anything.

As soon as I have any information, pictures, or whatever, I'll post it. I'm on my third "source" at the moment and they're analyzing the situation and design and will report back to me. All the renderings and pictures and ideas have been sent in, and we'll see what they come back with.

Thanks

Johnny may have accidentally deleted it when he cleaned up the thread, but I did state from the beginning that if there wasn't sufficient interest that this would become a one-off project and that would be that.

The cost of a one-off is different from the cost of tooling up to make multiple copies. I said that if we went forward with something that could be mass produced for everyone who was interested, that I wasn't going to shoulder the financial expense alone.

I didn't mean to sound snotty, and since there hasn't been any recent news, the question was perfectly reasonable. My apologies. I did, however, want to be clear about my obligations as far as the project is concerned.

I and others offered to prepay to show our commitment to the project. I again extend the offer to pay up front to help out with your production costs. Please let us know what you decide.

I know, and I appreciate the vote of confidence. I don't want to be under obligation to anyone until I'm very sure this is a "go" and that everyone's going to be happy.

I have been busy with other projects the last couple weeks, but I'll follow up again this coming week and see what I can find out.

hey jim, i think that most everybody is behind you so just keep on doing what your doing. personally, i have no problem with you taking your time with this. if you can make a setup that looks good and is functional. . . then the time is well spent. just take your time and make it right for yourself, then make some money. haha. i myself have no problem with any time issues cause i have to save up the money anyways. rock-n-roll

well, I have some input. I would like them to be the more "glassy" lokoing headlights, not the plastic looking ones with the lines in them. here, let me show u what I am talking about

**searches google images...**

the best examples I could find were BMW.

but first, here is what we dont want:

see how they have those lines in them?
