FD short throw shifter
procedure is uber simple:
1. twist and remove shift ****
2. lift up shifter console plastic
3. remove bolts related to shifter
4. replace shifter
5. put console and shift **** back.
extended reliability? u mean.. like a product warranty?? short shifter's very unlikely to break. but they're intended for offroad use. use at your own risk.
different folks different stroke. I would do a search to see people's responses and decide out of the name brands for yourself.

Search in titles only using terms like "short" or "shifter" and you should get some good results.
As far as I can tell, there are two basic designs...The 'Cs', B & M; GOTHAM style design and the MAZDASPEED; PETTIT; RX7store designs. Each have they own sets of advantages but I think all are generally good quality.
FWIW, I'm happy with my PETTIT.

I had a RE-A and I am running a Mazda Speed short shifter. I like the Mazda Speed for how short the throw is. Also as far as the as the plastic ball cap Mazda Trix sells a brass one. They also have an instruction manual to down load I think. Very good. I mentions some parts that should be changes at that time do to breakage from old age.
Also search the forum. Many have their thought because tat is wat they run. I like the feel of both the RE-A and the Mazda Speed, but I wanted the throw of the MS because of how short is is.
