FD 's VS LS1's at sac raceway on sat 9/21

Long story.....

so far it looks like I have myself and 1 other lightly modded FD going. so far they have 3 LS1's, two are stock, the other has 391 RWHP. Looking for some FD's that want to join me in racing them. This should be alot of fun.

This whole thing started out a few weeks ago when I kept noticing new threads on LS1 sight about how the LS1 can beat RX7's by Bus lengths. It was literally a new thread every day.

I went to the track last week and for once it was sold out so I could not compete. It gave me a chance to observe. I saw literally 20 LS1's race and all of them ran 14.0 to 14.5, except 1 that ran 13.3. I don't know who was stock or not, I just know they were SS's, Chicken Hawks and WS6's.

I know that LS1's are not 14 second cars and I don't pretend that they cant beat a FD. My opinion is that it will come down to the driver. Anyway, after watching this, I questioned the famous "12.9" second time that they quote alot. Ofcourse....It was a flamewar and they said that a BPU RX7 cant keep up with a SS. So the race is on.

It looks like they will have 4 or 5 SS's to run, maybe more. would be cool if some Fd's would run. I would much like to see a single turbo run against the 400 RWHP SS. Send me email at dhilarious@yahoo.com if you want to come. Stock or modded FD's are cool. Feel free to ask any questions.

I know FD's don't like to do things, since I am usually the only FD at the track, but its worth a try.

I will walk most of them, but I don't know the times a 392 RWHP SS can make. I would assume I need more mods to hang with him.

Anyone want to join?

Well I know with my mods I can hang with a 395rwhp Firebird so as long as you are similar to me than you should have no problem. My friend has a 95 Firebird which dynoed at 395rwhp and we both raced the same guy in a 2000 Camaro SS with BPU's. He took him by 5 cars or so and they raced a few times through the 1/4 and every time it was the same margian. I raced him once and blew his doors off by at least 7 cars if not more. I was assuming around 10 but it was quite an *** whooping either way. So you should have no problem with the 391rwhp Camaro unless he is just one exceptional driver or yoou just plain can't drive. Good luck, it sounds like fun.

I definitely agree...

Ya dude...I raced an LS1 SS Camaro or whatever its called...yes they are fast cars...but wants the point of having a fast car if the driver can't drive?? Us FD owners are pretty great drivers...When I ran against it....I surprisingly beat it with a measley 13.7 vs his embarrassing 14.1...Looks like it is too much horsepower for those domestic boys???

I used to own an LS1 Z28, and you guys are right about the slower times being the fault of the driver. The problem with the LS1s is the launch. They put so much power down to the rear wheels that it's tough to get a clean launch with a manual car. Watch out for the automatics, though. They're actually faster through the 1/4th, because it's much easier to take off with 'em.

Well here are the links to the closed threads. The first one I asked about the 12.9 . I tried to be as nice as possible. it turned into personal flame war simply because I didn't buy the magazine racing.

The 2nd post was an one that they decided to start after the moderator closed my post because of the magazing racing and personal attacks.

I'm going to say right now that I started out nice and did not mean to flame anyone, but after bieng called names I could not take it anymore.

It turns out that they say a BPU RX7 cant beat a stock SS now. Its funny cause I was babying my launch at the stock, getting as much as a 2.5 60' and still getting 13.7 @ 105. Now that I got my launch kit and rid of my wheel hop that will change. Anyway, thats the story. Anyone want to kick some LS1 butt? It looks like 4 LS1's will be there, 3 mostly stock and 1 modded heavily. Maybe more to come.

If a LS1 with 391rwhp and a RX7 had the same 60 foot, ect, ect to keep drivers error out of the equation he's going to need 80 - 100rwhp more than the 3rd gen to make up for weight differences.

If your pushing in the area of 310+ it'll be a good run.

Make sure your running some drag radials and do a burnout till you can see smoke at your side window......pull the ABS fuse and you can do a better burn out

I've seen LS1 cars do 13.30s stock, it's just all about driver. Like I've said before, don't underestimate those cars, and don't overestimate yours. Eventually you will see that it really doesn't matter how fast you are (or think you are) because there will always be someone faster. Last time I went to the track I lost to a civic with a motor swap and a turbo....who cares?

Or perhaps you are. My point is that the whole "I need to prove to everybody on the internet that my car is the best" attitude is quite stupid. *shrug*

I test drove the 2002 Firebird 2 nights ago, with the air ram spec edition 325HP, Hurst shifter and all that. It was pretty fast, But I think an FD stock could keep up with it esp after around 60MPH. I know my FD feels like it has more bang after 60 then the Firebird did, nothing beats that main turbo coming online.

But talk about torque, whoo doggie.

it started out me racing someone i met on the ls1 board cause we had identical times. So we planned the 18th and 21st. then the threads came up and some flames of course with the forum members...

3 of them wanted to race me. I have been chatting with them and they are cool as hell. Do I want to win? YES. I will beat some of them? probably. Will I lose to some of them? Likely.

Just have fun....

so...who is all in so far?

I'm at ALMS that weekend

Damn - sounds like fun, and just as I got my turbos set to 15lbs. Unfortunately I'll be at Laguna Seca for the ALMS races. Put up a good show for the rotary's, boys!

If you guys wern't so friggan far away (Like across the country), I'd be up for it too. I know it's not the elevation so they must have some pretty horribel drivers out there in cali in those LS1's....I'm a good driver but by no means am I great and I even managed myself consistent 13.4s with a stock 2000 Z28. It's should be a good race if Zero is runnig 13.7s or better vs stock LS1s unless like I said they can't drive. SSs or WS6s or Firehawks really should run better than my car seeing as how they have a bit more HP and have wider tires which is really key I think in the launch.

Even if you win they will still not change their minds. They will come up with excuses or even flat out lie about the outcome... its just the way they are.
I was at LACR last Friday and ran a 12.10 and those LS1 boys were turning green.... especially after the Z06 ran 14's! LMAO!
Show those boys some rotary power!!!
I second the comment about drag radials. Get some ET Streets or something comperable, rev the crap put of your car and let it fly!

Yep...they were sure green!

I was there too....man..they were green like horse crap LOL! I've taken out an LS1 at fontana last month and yes it does come down to the driver! Both fds and Ls1's are fast cars but the drivers that come along with them differ greatly! Chew them domestic up!!!
