thats like asking "is it a sedan?"

EDIT:

okay, to make a more constructive post---they CAN be reliable, but it takes work and money. its been my experience that its the little things that go wrong during the process of making the whole car reliable.

if you're used to M3's (as in your avatar), and are **** about maintenance, i'd look for something else..

That is usually due to owners that mod them improperly or skimp on maintenance. Search or check out the FAQ thread stickied in this forum for other threads on this topic.

this is a very easily searched subject. use the *search* function and also browse thru the faq's here and you'll find lots of answers. if you're thinking of buying one, then the buyer's guide is a must read. it address reliability issues and also what to look for when you're checking out cars as well as reliability mods after you get the car

i have to disagee. there are to many factors that can result in a blown motor. if by understand the car, you mean running stock boost and getting all reliability mods. then yes, i can see somewhat reliable

it all comes down to how hard you drive it and how much you drive it. if you do all things to take care of it and make sure everything is in check, it could be a reliable car. it all depends

put it this way, daily driving a FD is like gambling...

except you always lose.

even if you do all the maintenance, get all the reliability mods, etc., there still comes that day when you have to look for a new motor

hope that helps

sorry to be pessimistic, but im just realistic :/

Don't you think this is primarily because it is a 15 year old car that tends to run hot? I think it is reliable IF you don't have an age/heat/wear related failure of some small part. I'm thinking of all the water, vacuum, oil lines etc... solenoids, check valves, AST, radiator.... all can at some point fail with either catastrophic, or annoying results.

To me, the FD seems like a complex system. The more complex the system the more likely that any one component in that system may fail. If you keep all of those components up to date then it shouldn't fail. Hard to do however, at least for someone like myself. Hence, I'll never put myself in the situation where I NEED the car to be running to get to work etc...

Daily driving doesn't necessarily kill rotaries. If you blew your motor casually driving to and from work, sorry, you did something wrong. There's no reason whatsoever to be suffering chronic engine failures.

What you shouldn't do is depend on the FD (or any high-strung sports car) as your only mode of transportation. Doing so means you'll probably have to drive it when it's not 100%, and that's the big no-no.

If you are concerned about the reliability do not buy this car. You will buy several bottles of aspirin if you do.
