Talking FD People are Great

I just got home from 8 hours of autocross at Bush Stadium up in Indianapolis. Before anything had started I was checking out the cars as they were going through tech, and there was this red FD. I go up to the guy, just say "I have a silver one of these" and he instantly introduces himself and offers me a ride on one of his runs. That was a ton of fun... I'm going to have to run mine the next time we have an event. An FC that had come up from Bloomington with me blew his clutch out on his second run, so all was not quite well, but it was still a damn good time.

It just struck me how great it is how every RX-7 guy or girl I've ever met has been really friendly to me, a fellow owner. We really have a great community here.

I think it has to do with the obbesssion surrounding the whole ownership. I don't feel in competition with another owner because we both know the sacrificies and comitiment that comes with owning a RX-7. It quite simply is a ownership that is unique in engine and car.

I'am like that if I see a beat up first gen. WOW! Can I check it out and go for a ride. Always fun to see their face when I pull up in a 3rd gen and have drool coming out of my mouth for an older rx7.

i know what you mean street king... even seeing people driving around in miatas, giving them the thumbs up, but most of the time they don't know why. and only 1 perons with a 1st or 2nd gen around here knows what a 3rd gen looks like (but only because i worked with him a little over a year ago), and it drives me nuts cause i wanna talk rotary with them but most of them have no idea what i'm talking about, and that's pretty sad.

but yeah the community is great.

I've even had former FD owners track me down to talk about the RX-7. There's something about these cars...

When I fist bought my FD this guy gave me the signal to roll down the window. He was going on about how he used to have one but a wet road and a tree helped convince him to get rid of it.... He actually dropped his shop manual off @ where I work a week later! Even ex FD owners never lose that love....

It is a special kind of love. I always wave to 1st and 2nd genners. I don't wave to miatas because they are usually driven by gay males.

Those so-called "gay males" will hand you your *** repeatedly in the twisties. Funny how the Miata's biggest critics never actually get to wring one out on the track. Don't diss the chick-car, though. They know their stuff and are rabid sports car fans. Nothing autocrosses like a Miata.

I have to toss in my .02 cents here as well. I dont own an FD yet, but I have to tell you all that I am seriously impressed with the board here and the community in general. Everyone takes the time to answer questions (no matter how redundant) and will go the extra mile to help out. I have even had forum members toss out their home numbers in PM's if I wanted to call and go over specifications on the phone - that is pretty awesome.
