FD owners who have taken the driver's door apart
FD owners who have taken the driver's door apart
Hey guys,
In the midst of trying to find out why I can't unlock my driver's door using my key, I took everything apart and am now putting things back together. I just realized that I have no idea what this solenoid thing does--I believe it was an aftermarket solenoid installed for an aftermarket alarm or remote entry system. Could anybody verify this? I looked at page S-10 and S-11 in the factory service manual and it doesn't show any part to be below the inner handle. I think I will leave it disconnected in the hopes that maybe this aftermarket solenoid is binding up and giving me a hard time with unlocking my driver's door with my key. please check this out...other thread
thanks,
anthony

Reason #1 not to install a power door lock on the drivers side. Check the cable that actuates the door lock, it might be broken. Aftermarket solenoids don't actuate in the same direction as the cable travels. This ends up breaking the cable right at the door handle. you can't just buy the cable, you need to buy the complete lock assy.

That looks like the POS power door lock motor that was put in my '93 at circuit city, and guess what my door locks are out right now too...shhhhh...don't tell any one since I can't lock my f'in door at all and just have to arm my alarm and hope for the over tuned motion sensor to detur anyone. Any way...did you check whether your door lock where the key goes in is loose , mine was just turning an extra quarter turn when I turned my key and it was all downhill from there.

that is true and exactly what happened to mine but he seems to have a problem with his key not working, not the lock on the interior, or atleast he didn't mention that

That is an aftermarket unit. My FD had one of these as part of a Viper alarm system. It was causing the Driver's door panel not to snap all the way on so I ripped it out.
I have a series of pics when I pulled the entire guts of my door apart. I'll see if I can dig them up and post them out on the web with a link.
My power locks do not open the driver's door when you unlock the driver's door. I'm thinking this how they work from Mazda. If I unlock the driver's door, both doors unlock...
