I had the flashing drunk girl about about two months ago. Honestly I'm a little annoyed driving the car around. I mean sometimes I just want to go out and cruise and it's impossible without people chasing me around. It's a beautiful car and lots of compliments...conversations that result are usually a little lengthy. I had a Porsche driver tell me nice Porsche. That was dissapointing...as a Porsche fan. A month ago a couple kids were by my house oogling over the car and I mentioned something about maybe selling it. "Dude you can't do that...this is an American ICON!" Scoot hood has made a lot of people think Viper lately. It's fun in a way I guess...but I'm proud to own a 7 and would not mind it being referred to what it actually is.

I get the thumbs up all the time, and 'nice car!'

I teach high school music, and on the rare occasion when i drive it to work, i've had to come out and wipe the drool marks off, and those are from the staff too.

The other day I had some guy walking down the sidewalk shout out "Hey, is that a supra?" yarrgh...

The nice thing is that this car gets a lot more respect than my SRT4 did. I don't get douchebags wanting to race me at every single stoplight, which was getting annoying.

my wife hates it though.

After four years of ownership it has become more annoying then anything else. If you think you get a lot of attention when your in stock form, just wait till you start modifying it. This is how every conversation goes with a random girl:

girl: Hey! Sexy car is that a bmw or porsche?
me: No, its a mazda.
girl: Oh, *walks away*

Well I've always gotten 5X more attention in my slammed 1971 convertible ghia. Kids point, dudes give me thumbs up in traffic, girls stick their heads out the window and say "love your car!"... The latest crazy is "this thing must do great on gas, right?". A sign of the times lol

I haven't driven my car since the makeover, because its still at the mechanics. As soon as the car came out of the body shop I trailered it up to LA (140 miles). On the way up I got tons of stares and a few thumbs up. I'm thinking its gonna get a lot more attention than the ghia now.

My favorite compliments thus far are...

"hey, is that thing heated?"

After asking him 4x wtf he was saying he said "looks fast." I guess that's what heated means, lol.

Then at a gas station one of the windshield repair guys came up to my car and said, "Dude, this thing is stupid, man that's bonkers!" At first I was thought he was talking **** then I realized he liked it. I was laughing so hard in my head at bonkers..

People around here always yell "nice Vette". sometimes I hate living in the home of the Corvette.

Passed a few cars on a lightly traveled Parkway at 120 MPH one day. a few miles down the road ( I was down to 75 MPH by then) a cop stops me for traveling at excessive speeds. After 5 minutes of trying to convince him it wasn't me, he finally admitted the "citizen report" referred to the vehicle as a "Corvette". I pointed out the fact that my car was not a corvette, and was not even made in America. He wound up giving me a verbal warning and we went on our way. Sometimes I love living in the home of the corvette.

just last night i stopped to get some pizza at a local spot and was already eating outside near my car when 2 carloads of kids pulled up. One kid i could hear across the parking lot ,haha, nutting his pants and pointing. Another kid got out and was walking to the pizza place with a chick and was like "thats a nice car....i know the guy and talked to him before." Meanwhile im standing not right next to my car but nearby and im looking at this kid say that and im thinking.....um no you dont. The other kid who just nutted runs up and asks if its my car and i say yea and answer a bunch of questions while the kid who "knew me" got this very confused look on his face like damn...maybe i dont

i chuckled because i think i heard his girl rip on him a lil bit for pretending to know the "owner"

none the less...they stood, stared, and waited for me leave.....i did rip it in first on the way out so they could take something home with them heh

I've had some people chase me down and give me a thumbs up, and nearly every slammed rice-wagon in town wants to race.

But, on a darker note, I've also had several guys yell "F**K YOU", "I hate you", and one I always laugh at: "F**k you, you rich *******!" And I get as many middle fingers as I do thumbs up. I always half way expect to get the car keyed whenever I have to leave it in a parking lot.

The car seems to be invisible to females under 40, high schoolers stare until they see the driver (I'm 58). The biggest buzz the car generates is at the dealership, the young lot guys drool over it, the salesman don't even know it's a Mazda.

I know what you mean. At the stealer ship they treat me like royalty when I'm in a 7 but in the Miata they couldn't care less.

+1

I drove by my local dealership to pick up some parts. One of the salesman was out on the lot.

"Nice car."
"Thanks."
"What is it?"
"An RX-7."
"Oh... You want to trade it in for an RX8?"

Just one more strike against taking a 7 into the dealer.

my gf hates my fd, just the other day we saw a single turbo mkiv supra and she said "I like that car better than your rx-7". And I always hear how sad it is that my G35 (which she loves) gets parked outside so my FD can stay in the garage.

Not related to comments on the FD, but the wife thing. I had to convince my husband to buy his RX8 and then again when I got my FD. I love these cars. Have not been able to drive the car much since it is so damn hot out here, but looking forward to hearing the compliments.
