I think you have received some pretty sound advice. I have made several long trips (+10 hours) without any problems. I agree with bringing some common tools, some oil, water, etc. Try to plan your trip so you don't hit the major cities (Atlanta, Charlotte, etc) during rush hours (morning or evening).

Once you get up here, you can take your car to the hobby shop on base and do an oil change, etc. Hobby shop here on base is much better than NSA and NAS in New Orleans.

I left New Orleans in July and the crew from New Orleans know me pretty well (Ted, Jack, Mark, Freddie, etc). Look me up once you get up here. Remember that Virginia doesn't allow radar detectors, so you may want to put it away at the state line.

i drove mine 950 miles each way from texas and back and drove it around there for a week so it doable. just watch your boosting and set the cruise. its a little scary how it hits boost then drops off while on cruise control but you'll get used to it and it really helps with the mpg. i saw 23mpg on my trip Drive it!!!!!

 

Oklahoma to Portland, Oregon in three days in the middle of winter. Not a hitch. Well, the ice storm was a little scary.

 

I drove my FD 27 hours, 1900 miles non-stop, from Cali to Texas... in the middle of summer!! I gave her quick tune-up the day before and took off in the morning. I definitely recommend taking an extra quart of oil with you. I checked my fluids everytime I stopped to get gas, and I had to top off my oil level a few times. Also, keep an eye on your temps cuz my water temp started to climb as I drove uphill through Tejon Pass. Luckily for me, I just turned the heater on full blast and my water temp went back down, so I didn't have to stop. My only problem during the trip was fighting the urge to fly through Arizona and New Mexico.



Ok, so maybe I did open her up a few times...

 

Drove from Pheonix, AZ to Eugene, OR. Took about 17 hours. Averaged 26 mpg. Opened her up alittle (140+) on I-10 outside of Pheonix. No problems what so ever (besides a sore butt... as mentioned before)

 

Guy who bought mine, bought a one way ticket from Ohio for him and his wife. They drove it home from California, non-stop, 2200 miles without an issue. Just bring some fluids, belts, and basic tools just in case.

 

i drove mine from Sacramento CA to Fairfax VA in three days. not a single problem... just a sore *** and stiff legs. the car will do just fine.

 

^ how much did that cost in gas? im actually looking to drive to cali sometime soon from maryland. or kentucky. im scared of getting halfway and being 500$+ in the hole with gas alone...
