FD Front and Rear Rotor housing different?

Here is the situation: I picked up a FD block from a local shop that they no longer wanted. I am going to pull it apart and check all the clearences, then overhaul it. I noticed that the front rotor housing has the R stamped on the top. Does it really matter what order they go in? The only difference I can see is the Knock sensor should go in the front rotor housings. Would there be a problem if you just had the rotor housings swapped? I am just curious and it makes me question the quality of this shops work. Thanks
