FD Firewall Drilling...
I am having a real hard time accessing a conduit to route water temp gauge sensor wire and boost gauge tubing. Some suggest thru steering column boot; some suggest AC line on passenger side; some suggest thru fender well. None work for me yet...have not tried the fender well method.
I am thinking about drilling, but uncertain if this is wise...
How do you route your gauges tubing thru firewall?
TIA

Just pull the plug out, and you'll be able to run just about any wire possible through it! There's also a hole in the engine compartment that leads right to the fender well. If you'd like, I can snap a few pictures when I get home tonight to show you exactly where everything is. Just let me know!

so does this hole link to the inside of the driver side compartment? I do see a good size hole near the brake booster...is that it?
If you can do the picture that would be super.
Thanks.

I agree with TT rex, do NOT drill through the firewall. There is large grommet located in the driver's side wheel well. You just need to pull your wheel well liner and you will see it. You do not remove the grommet, just cut a slit and you can route your hoses/wires through. That is where I ran my boost gauge and boost controller through. Once you pull the wheel well liner, you will see that it is not that complicated. Look up and behind your pedals and you will see the grommet as well. Good luck.

The hole in the drivers side wheel well leads inside the cabin behind the fuse box on the drivers side. If you search for posts by jimlab on the subject, I believe I remember him posting pics of it.

Wimps!!! In all seriousness, I routed all my sensors in through the ecu harness boot. It is difficult to cut a hole into because it is extremely pliable and thick, but there is plenty of room for additional wires and it doesn't damage the chassis.

I too do not want to drill any holes in the car! The steering boot was pretty easy to run both the boost guage tubing and wire for the temp guage. I used a coat hanger to push from the passenger side and taped what I needed to pull through from the engine compartment side. No drilling and if I want to remove everything I just pull it through again.

Tia,
You have nothing to worry about as long as you use a proper grommet for the job. There is absolutely nothing wrong with drilling through the fire wall as long as the wire is protected from abbrasion and heat. Anyone who has installed car audio at a shop knows what I'm talking about. Just pick a spot out of plain sight and away from any hot metal, drill a small hole with a unibit then insert a sealing grommet fitting somewhat snuggly around the wire and into the new hole. I have done this atleast 50 times with no problems to speak of.
You could also use an existing plug as stated earlier

I don't know if you noticed but there seems to be a small hole in your firewall. ;o)

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
yeah you can drill through the firewall, but why? It is a lot more work and you could do it wrong, just go through the fender well. It has plenty of room for wires and already has a grommet to protect the wires. It is so easy. All you guys that drilled through the wall made it a lot harder for yourselves, hey but to each his own.
