I'm 27 and postponing the FD purchase to buy a house before the FTHB tax incentive expires. I feel like such a boring grown up for making a responsible decision. The good news is that the delay will be less than a year (wife is finishing nursing school), and I'll have a nice garage that I can use to start hording parts.

I completely agree... But most do not have back-up plans (savings) hence why most of this country is in the position it is in.. Irresponsibility (buying what they could not afford in the first place) and ignorance(letting some mortgage company talk them into it)...

Been there..done that.. See my post above. I could not tell you if the owning company will let you if you tell them what is going on in there, but what they don't know won't hurt them. You just cannot be an idiot and bur the place down or anything.

You could just do like I did and bring the people in the office lunch every couple of days, joke with them all the time about how many packages get shipped to you, and flirt with the cute receptionist at the front desk, and they don't really care if you work on your car aslong as you clean up after yourself and nobody complains

Here in orlando you'd be crazy to leave one outside because of theft issues. I never leave my car outside overnight.

for 135 a month I put my car in a storage unit wide enough to open the doors.

street parking is the worst. i'd probably not own a tuner car if I had to street park it. Lost my 240 like that... here one minute, gone the next. It was beauty, too. 95 with only 50k miles... GONE! /sigh

Well i been lucky all my life because i lived in a houses where i ALWAYS had a huge front driveway, to fit 6-7, or even as many as 9 cars.

The house i live in now wont fit that many, 2 in the rear of the house but then theres a long driveway that goes from the rear of the house to the street. And thats where my FD is currently parked, at the rear of the house under a tent lol

However if it comes to a point where my next house will have no garage (i doubt it cause next house i go in, i def want a 2 car garage), theres a place up the block from me that has like 6 seperate garages for rent. And also throughout the town, good sized garages for rent.

If and when i do move, im staying in this town anyway. My town is small so even if i move farther away from those said garages for rent. I can take a 3 minute trip to the garage, park the DD on the street and take out the toy.

I'v had two broken ins where the f*&kers stole my Stereo. One time messed up the whole dash plastics as well. This over a decade. Both happened in GATED PARKING in the building.

But the rule is, CLEANER THE CAR LESS LIKELY THIEVES WILL DWELL ON IT.
Keep it waxed.

sounds like the house I'm renting with some friends, the FD (though currently it's a crown vic we're working on) and my two roommate's motorcycles, an engine hoist, two stands, a fridge, some chairs, a tv, a workbench, a bunch of tools, and a bunch of spare parts, the driveway has my daily (BMW 525) my roommates truck and his first gen, the street has my other roommate's truck and my fourth roommate's car, the back yard has three parts cars, and I still have **** in my room for my car

that's how it was for me when I still lived at home, when my dad bought a 70 corvette my mom refused to give up her spot so the FD got to sit outside.

oh, my 2 cents, if you can afford to rent a garage from the place you're renting your appartment from do it, if they don't offer that service, find a storage unit, the bigger the better, but within reason, all you really need is something wide enough to open both doors completely, a little more is nice but you can always push the car out a bit. Or just rent a house if you have some friends looking too. One thing that some friends of mine did here in town, they rented a small block of garages in their appartment complex that had removable walls and made it into their shop, 5 stalls, all open to each other, it kicks ***, they all own swapped rx7s.

doesn't swaping the wankel out negate the need for garage space for repairs? I KID I KID.

I have rented houses in the past with garages, its the way to go. Last winter I had 3 roomates, and one's supra and my fd got the garage. We did major work all through the winter haha. I have since moved and now the fd sits on the street, but the owner has garanteed me a spot in his garage for the winter. right now he said he just doesn't want to have to be swapping cars around all the time so i can get to my car in the garage.

I want to rent a warehouse type space, with a large garage door, possibly an office area and small locker room. I would then live in the office area (bedroom and kitchen) have a shower (lockeroom hopefully) and then living room would be in the working area with my car. Plasma TV, couch, tools, parts, and car all right in one spot. Not sure if i'll ever find it, but I think it would be awesome.

the advantage to renting a separate storage space (with the proper size and electrical outlets etc) is that you don't have neighbors bitching at you about noise/smoke and you don't have roommates trying to clutter up your work space with their own unrelated ****
