FD aluminum radiator for $175???

there seems to be alot of vendors out there for
"stock style" radiators for less than half the price of the Koyo, Fluidyne, etc....such as these guys http://www.radiatorexpress.com/

any opinions/experience? I guess all I care about is that it's all aluminum, without fiberglass end tanks

the site says that it is a replacement radiator. not an UPGRADE. i guess it would be good for those who do not want to run an upgrade in size, to get this one because of the all aluminum sides and core....

Uhhhh ... and I was just reading about them ... watch out for people referring you to this because they have some incentive program for referrals, which always is a red flag to me personally.

no incentive motivation here....I just want an all metal radiator for cheap

I'm sure Koyo, PWR, and Fluidyne are nice, but how much of the price is going toward getting the thing manufactured and shipped over from Japan?

the one from RadiatorExpress has a lifetime warranty, so I think I'm going to go for it, I called and it does have metal end tanks

btw, anyone looking for a Koyo, I found one for $342 here http://www.radiatormania.com/en/alumrads.cfm?prodid=25

I did not see anything on the site about the rad being all aluminum - just that it was an OEM replacement ie they could have plastic end tanks.

ysfr:
FLUIDYNE is an AMERICAN Company their rads are built in the USA

I called them back and it is solid copper/brass and painted black, weighs 20-25 pounds

I think copper/brass transfers heat as well as aluminum, but the weight is a concern

Yeah I gotcha ... actually I was directing that message as a warning to you just in case someone else had shown you that link and tried to convince you that it was a good idea.

Being that no one has seen these radiators and that they're OEM replacement, I'd spend a bit more for the Koyo which is thicker, aluminum, shiney, and certainly has to be built better. Lifetime warranties are nice, but they're often not much more than a sales gimmick that are a hassle to call upon ... unless it's a Craftsman tool. But mail ordering a lifetime warranty? And I could imagine it taking 2 weeks away from you if you had to actually make a claim. Oh this is after the radiator burst and you had the car towed home praying that your coolant seals are still good. Sounds like a big hassle. I have the Koyo and I'm a stickler for quality and no-bullshit in the automotive industry, so I can vouch for it ... it's really cleanly constructed and pretty for what it is (a radiator).

Copper transfers heat BETTER than Aluminum, but is SIGNIFICANTLY Heavier and more expensive than Aluminum, which is why OEMs have stopped using it for radiators. I am guessing that the STOCK alum/plastic radiator is in the 15lbs range so the all Copper/Brass one may be as much as 5-10lbs heavier

I decided to wimp out and ordered a new PWR from the RX7Store.....the extra weight was a factor

for someone looking for a cheap radiator though, I still think the radiator express one makes sense

Yeah, and then you can write a "how to" and we can all go get it if it's good and if not then you were the only one to dive on the grenade
