FD 2000 Rough Idle

Does anyone know why after rebuilding an entire engine, rebuilding the two turbos's, that when starting the car it idles fine for a while and then the idle goes all 'lumpy' and all over the place. It's like it drops from 1000rpm to 200rpm then back up and there is no consistency. This car just will not let my mechanic fix it . 5 months and still i cannot get it back. Why would the idle be all over the place?
Please help if you know any suggestions.

Get him to check the compression. If he re-used any seals, one could have let go.

Would a rough idle only be due to seal damage though, could a sensor or solenoid be playing up. The mecahnic has run a scan tool and it has revealed no error codes. These cars, be them amazing, are so temperamental . I am still amazed Mazda would release such a car !!!!
