Cool FD = The Worst Girlfriend with the Best Pootie

I got my 93 touring last year, and ever since I got my 7 nothing but trouble.

First my glove compartment wouldn't close. (fixed it)
CD player's light went out.
Plastic cover behind the driver's sear (I don't know how to refer to it) broke.
Bushings.....(you know how they go.....ended up spending around $ 400)
Got into a mild accident (my fault, ended up in a ditch) --- Got an estimate today, it came out to be $1800 to fix it right
My driver's side window switch gave out.

Everytime something goes wrong (and 90% of the time, it is not due to my wrongdoing), I swear to myself that I will sell it at a low price.

Today, after my window stopped working and I got the estimate of $ 1800, I told myself and my girlfriend that I would sell my 7 for $7000. Btw, beside the damage done to my driver side, the car is in an excellent condition.

Anywho, I got hungry after my long nap and went to get something to eat. On the way back home, I decided to get "spirited" with my 7. And my God, I cannot get rid of her!!! She's what I've always dreamed in a car!

Thus, back to my point: RX 7 is like a girlfriend that treats you horribly but gives you head like no other! You hate her in everyway imaginable and she frustrates you like hell. But once you get "freaky" with her, you really have to ask yourself whether you can actually get rid of her.

I was a honda guy for close to 10 years, and I still own the honda i bought in 97 (my DD). Compared to my honda, the 7 is the worst car imaginable (i.e.the worst girlfriend). But I can't seem to get rid of it. I bet you guys have the same issue. What should I do????

It's a 12 year old sports car did you expect reliability. We all go through stages of hating our 7's. Theya are a huge PITA, but when they run right I wouldn't trade it for the world. On a side note I have owned mine for 7 years now with far less problems than you listed having in 1 year. You may just want to sell that one.

$1800 for fixes from sliding into a ditch, NOT a window motor.

Since I bought my 7 last year I have spent 9500$ fixing it, (it was a bad condition FD), I still have yet to put in all new bushings and a new wiring harness(ANOTHER 2K). But I view all my money WELL spent, I wouldnt trade my car for the world!

Things I had done:

Cooling system revamp: 2500
New clutch: 1100
Broken O rings on fuel injectors: 600
Turbo problems: 2300
Hose job: 575
Pass it for inspection:1100(stupid problems)
New stereo system:400
New Exhaust(old one rusted out): 425
New radiator(installed): 450

And to imagine I spent 9500 bucks and I have: 3 aftermarket parts! I LOVE MY FD!

$2500 for a cooling system "revamp". I think they cleaned you out... Radiator is $450 or so max, water pump is ~$80, belts ~$25. Labor shouldn't be $1900.

Well, that about sums it all up now, doesnt it? When its good its heaven, and when its bad its hell. Maybe theres some kind of complex we have to be attracted to this type of thing. Anybody else notice the girls you find hottest to have these characteristics?

I had to get a whole new cooling fan assembly, that was 1200, the new fan blades(the 5 and 7 blade ones) 200 bucks, fried wiring for them, had to get new IC piping, and a new radiator, so yah I paid around the right price~

not that I'm the mechanical/electrical expert, but i think you should have bought this car knowing that you should be doing most of the fixes yourself. The dealer or rotary specialist shops should be reserved for stuff you can't do yourself. Parts are expensive enough as is. If you driver side window switch gave out, then take the damn door apart and find out why. For 1800 bucks, you could probably buy a an entire working door/window.

Also something important to note is that dealers typically will not use aftermarket or used/refurbished parts when they repair stuff. This means you will have to buy parts from them as they replace it at exorbitant prices in addition to their service charge.

If you like the 7's style, like ijneb said, you shoulda gotten a viper. They look pretty similar imo

If you wanted something fast, I'm sure an sti or something would have been adequate (warranty too)

I did not say the window switch was going to cost me $1800. What are you kidding????? This is not the Lambo Murcielago forum here. I said the body damage from the accident I had estimated to $1800.
Btw, I never said I went to the dealer. I only got my bushings from a dealer in Texas. I do not think seeking help from Mazda dealer is a smart decision as well.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Call Ray Crowe for parts at Malloy Mazda next time. You'll love me for this suggestion. Is the "head switch" by my fog lights on my touring? It must be another "comfort" goodie us touring guys have over the base and R1 guys!

"I had to get a whole new cooling fan assembly, that was 1200." They go for 50-100 used. Always search for used parts first.
