A favor for a fellow Mazda owner
Hey all,
I'm in the process of researching a proper turbo setup for a 2.5 KLD V6 [93+ ProbeGT/MX-6/626]. It seems like the block is strong, good for over 11psi, with reports of over 14psi [not bad for cast rods and pistons ]. Stock knock sensor, forged crank, and oil tap on the block make turboing it a bit easier. The first limitation is fuel. Stock 170-220cc/min [varies by year, and nobody knows for sure what they are ] are only good to about 7-8psi max, before you start getting ridiculous fuel pressures with an FMU and the spray pattern goes bad [usually above 80psi].
At any rate, I was informed that secondary injectors from an FD3S will drop in. Now going from six 220cc/min injectors to 850cc/min is not really a good idea for a sub 3 litre piston engine, unless you like idling at 3000RPM. However, searching around FD sites, I've discovered that you guys swap in the 850 secondaries to replace the stock 550 primaries. I think that with good fuel management tuning, one could get the idle below 2000RPM with 550cc/min. However, I have a few questions:
1) Are the 550cc/min injectors and 850cc/min injectors low impedance?
2) Are the 550cc/min's the same exterior dimentions as the 850's?
3) Does anyone have a picture of either injector for me to verify the basic shape and assess possible fitment before shelling out $$ for six injectors?
4) What is the minimum pressure you could run with the 550's or 850's?
5) Why are FD's so sexy?
Thanks guys,
