What do you guys think is the highest reasonable horsepower you can get from a 13b... or the 20b... Street legal. And what kind of times could you be running in the quarter. In a budget of about 30k plus the cost of the fd.

 

i know for 14.5k or so you can get an 850+ hp engine, saw it on rx7store.net or some other website.

NEWB......... anyway, i think you should do some research before you ask these question. i did that too but you will soon realize the cost and everything that is involved in making the car faster. also, the 1/4 mile is almost 80% based on the driver...

 

It depends on your definition of "street legal".

If you mean a car that can pass emissions and visual inspection, then a 20B is out and you'd be very disappointed in the maximum horsepower a 13B-REW can make in that configuration. If you mean anything you can get away with assuming you don't have to pass emissions or any sort of visual inspection, then that's something else entirely.

Does this car run on a steady diet of C16 race gas or alcohol, or can it be filled up with 91-93 octane? Is it something you could occasionally drive "on the street" if traffic was scarce, or is it something you'd be afraid to get caught in stop and go traffic with? Are we talking about a car you could legally insure, or something that you just let your insurance company assume is still a standard FD?

There are a lot of factors which can affect what someone's definition of "street legal" means. For some people, the fact that it has a license plate on it is enough to qualify. For others, street legal means pump gas, insurance, and OEM emissions equipment.

Note that the "complete turn key package" doesn't include engine management... which doesn't make it a "turn key" package, does it...

Second, all I see is a number. I see no dyno charts proving that it's an 850 horsepower package, and 850 is obviously too conveniently "rounded" to be a real world result. Perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to swallow everything you read on web sites...

 

Figure an additional budget of $10k a year for motors, tires, turbos and stuff.

What would you do with an 800 hp fd anyway?

 

I think 850hp is a bit of extreme marketing.

 

If you want to pass emissons,cat, air pump, ETC.. and run radial tires you could get deep into the 11's @sea level, high 11"s @6300ft like me in CO, but this means you will need to do alot of mods and know how hard you can push it without hurting it (mostly intake temp, and injecter dudy cycle)

 

Alright to clear some things up: I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. There is no emmisions laws, and we're at a high altitude.

I would be running 91-93 octane only, race gas is too much money.

800hp is just nuts... I was thinking enuff hp to spank the vette and it's ******* driver that live down the street from me, he pisses me off so bad. Another story.

As for my "newbie status" yes I am new to rotary, but not to piston engines.

So since there is no emmisions laws, and I will be insuring the car, what mods would I be looking at assuming a 30k dollar price range for one sweet running and quick fd.

Its probably the one you'll never hear about.

But KSP's FD comes to mind. The car ran 9.614 last time I read about it. That was on street tires too. Running twin HKS 3037s turbos

 

30k in mods can make you a pretty damn nice and fast rx7. A big single turbo, huge ported motor, all the fuel you could need. ****, 30K can buy you a 3 rotor conversion with a single turbo on it. But then again your talking canadian money, so probably not.

850 is too much power for a street car in my opinion. It just gets ridiculous at a point.

i think the most hp i've heard of with a 13b is 780hp and its a drag car... 850???

Im in Calgary as well and I know a couple of guys with a 13B, big single etc. etc. running 500 or so HP at altitude. Their setups were around 20G or so as well I believe.

Get in touch with force fed performance in Abbotsford, theyll gladly build you a retarded fast motor.

 

Easily 500-550hp.

 

If your in Calgary it's worth going to have a chat with Adam over at rx specialties. He just built my "stage 5" 13b. He can tell you from experience what is involved with a high hp build and what kind of coin it will cost. He is realistic on what it takes to make that kind of power, and knows what's needed to support it.

 

id highly advise against going to see Adam, his engines are super unreliable.

the shop is also a front to lander money so if you want to keep supporting that too be my guest.
