Farewell tribute to FD on Japan news

I`m sure this is old news to most people, but for those of you who don`t know the FD along with the skyline GTR, Supra, Silvia, and a couple of other vehicles went out of production as of the end of August due to new smog regulations going into effect in Japan. I have been living in Tokyo for just over a month now, and although I am as grieved as anyone else by the end of the production of all of these great cars I was excited to see a really cool news broadcast last night dedicated to the FD (they also showed all of the other cars ceasing production, but focused on the FD with about 10 min dedicated to it). One of the news casters was driving a new blue FD around the streets of Tokyo and interviewing important rotary people. They even took a trip to a used car lot exclusively for modified RX7s. Of course they ended with a preview of the RX8 and the renesis engine and they even explained how it worked. I think all of the other crap on Japanese TV is well worth the few moments of glory that I experienced last night. I wish American news programs showed us anything half as cool. Farewell FD.

Did they say anything about having parts still available and do you all think our parts are gonna cost more now than ever?

Its kind of wierd. I actually bought my used FD on the day they stopped making them. Didn't plan it like that, found out afterward.

Someone should divx that news broadcast up and give it subtitles

Of course parts will still be available and I wouldn't anticipate them costing any more for at least the next 5 years.

all i want top see is a renesis in an fd!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahaha. whos the first!!!! hey, doesnt the renesis have a different rotor design as compared to the fd's? just wondering if the series 6 rotor can be swapped out with the renesis rotor in order to achieve lower compression.

I think the compression ratio in the renesis will likely be higher, because it's n/a.

Thanks for that great post on the news report on Japanese TV. Did they show the last FD coming off the line? Was there anything special about the last car? Do you know what's happening to it? Is it going to a customer, or into a museum?

How depressing. All the wonderful cars, what is the world coming to? I guess I'll just have to tear up my license or start driving a 5.0 mustang. I feel sad. Really sad. Josh

*Ahem* Actually I believe it's "Hoe-mees". Derived from the latin word "Homus", which means "From my 'hood, mothafucka."
