Fan Mod switch question. Something backwards?

Well, heres another newbie question.
I've done the search, and didnt really find anything...
If someone could point me in the right direction or help me out that would be great.

Done the fan mod, bought a self illuminated switch from Radio Shack.
Now, I wanted to have the switch light up when the fans are ON. The switch comes with three connections. POWER/GROUND/LOAD. No matter how I wire it up, the light comes on only when the fans are off and the light turns off when the fans are on.
Am I using the wrong kind of switch?
Did I screw up on something?
Theres not much to screw up on in the wiring.
TEST wire to switch, switch to ground. Right?

You should just run the 12v power for the light to the fuse box, on a pole thats hot with ignition... And run the ground for the light to the far side of the switch circuit. So... When you turn on the fans (Ground the wire) you will also be grounding the light, and thus illuminating the light.

Hope that helps.

Nope, that's not true.

There is a fan mod in which you pull out the A/C relay. This mod will disable the A/C and allow you to turn on the fans as if you were turning on the A/C. However, that's not the mod that Black se7en is attempting to do.

I had the same problem with the switch lighting up bass ackwards...the only thing about wiring it to a fuse that is hot with ignition is that when you turn the car off the light also goes off...with the Dave Disney fan mod the fans stay on even when the car is off, thus killing your battery numerous times ....

I want to wire it where the light stays on even when the ignition is off...fans on = light on, fan off = light off, and it doesn't matter if the car is on or off....what power source is on all the time?...definately not the ash tray light, it only comes on when you turn the lights on...dis sux, I have been trying to figure this out now for a while...

I would wire it to the wire to the radio thats always hot.
I haven't dont it yet because I didn't want to fry anything. Just seems wierd wiring a HOT line to the switch. Don't want to mess anything up and send a hot line to the fan test wire.

Wierd thing about my car is that even with the wire grounded, the fans will turn off on their own.
But I still want the light just for asthetics.
