Exterior Door Handle Touch Ups

Hi all,

I just picked up my FD over the weekend. I noticed that the area around the locks and the door handle are pretty scratched up from the previous owner. Does anyone know of a good black paint to fill in the scratches? The rest of the exterior looks really good and those scratches are driving me crazy. Let me know what you've tried and how it worked out.

This sounds wierd, but gloss black testors model paint matched perfectly.
You can even wax over it when dry.

I have the same problem.. what is the best way to apply the paint? Maybe a can of it and just mask off the whole area and shoot it?

Thanks, I'll try out the Testors. Sounds like a quick, cheap, easy fix that will still look good. You can't ask for anything more than that can you?

Testors works awesome. I also use the Mazda touch up paint. They both work great.

Don't brush it, just dab it or use a cardboard match to fill in the scuffs, also. See? Another reason not to let those claw-fingered cat-women drive an FD.

I think I'll try the cardboard cut out to match. The number of scratches the previous owner caused is almost unreal. The cut out would allow me to blend the entire area much easier. I'm also planning to spray it on, not brush. I can't imagine that a brush job would look very good.

Removing the outside plate is not that difficult, you may want to just to that to avoid overspray and a tape line.

Hey Tim,

looks like you like to surf the forum before work, too. It would appear we're both addicted to the damn FD. 7:15am, ouch Getting my (hopefully well-tuned) power fc back from XS any day now. I'm going through withdrawal; can't wait to get her back on the road

On the inside there is a black cover that snaps off. when removed you will see the bolts and can then unclip the latch mechanisms as well. Only takes 10 min at the most to remove. Sand it a little and shoot it; no problem.

yeah that black cover will pop off real easily with the windows down and doin over 145 , i almost lost mine
