Finally they gave in. After numerous phone calls they came up with the decision to pay for the replacement. Although i'm happy I won't have to fork out the $5K myself. They should not have treated me this way. My lawyer said they had no choice but to pay. Thanks for all the information. I don't think they will be taking anymore RX7 or rotary engines.

Just talked to a guy over at http://www.extendedautowarrantycorp.com
Bad news is that they don't insure the twin turbo RX7 any more. Almost all insured vehicles had an apex claim. That is why.
But the good news is that other than the apex seal the claims are right in line with other cars, meaning the cars are very reliable after all.
Oh well...

I had the same problem, my oil seal went bad and the warranty company dragged their feet for 2 months until I wrote a letter to the CEO and their VP of consumer affairs threatened to go to BBB and Bureau of Automotive Affairs(BAR) of I didn't hear back from them with a written reason why they weren't covering the repair. The next day the rep called and said they'll pay for a new motor. Same thing happened to another buddy on his Camaro. I told him to threaten them with a simple letter from a lawyer, 2 weeks later he had check in hand.

Supposedly this is how a lot of these warranty companies are. The one I heard good things from my mechanic has Honda's warranty. But that might mean having to find an FD sitting at a honda dealership...needle in a hay stack probably. Anyways, he said they almost always pay, no questions asked. They're probably used to dealing with those reliable Hondas so they don't care about the once a year phone call they get for an FD.

Also, whatever you do, make sure you put your car back to BONE stock before taking it in under warranty. I'm not talking about sound system, unless that's what's broken. But everything down to the size of your tires, as in make sure you have the stock rims with the exact stock size tire(225/50/16s). Even if you maintained the same overall diameter, like 245/45/16, they'll void your warranty for "oversize tires".

Warranties aren't a free ride after you pay the initial cost. You have to be very persistant and make sure you get the best level. There's inclusive and exclusive. You want to get the one that tells you what's NOT included as opposed to what is. Not easy to find but worth every penny.

Houdini, glad it worked out w/ you. I duked it out w/ my warranty company for like 2.5 months b/c they first were claiming my car was modified (lol) despite it being bone stock (at that time). Then they wanted to give me a used motor, citing some shady clause in the contract that said they have the right to use new or used parts as available. So I went home and read that clause more carefully. Apparently it says that the used parts CAN be used, but they must be within the original manufacturer tolerances!!! So I told 'em sure I'll take a used motor; but they gotta prove it's within the original manufacturer tolerances, which can only be done by tearing it down. I told 'em I'll tear it down, and if it's not in spec, they gotta pay for the motor, the teardown, the diagnostic AND the rebuild. And if it's in spec, then it's on me. Naturally, they didn't take that kind of gamble. I got 'em to pay for a new reman no sweat

you could also tell them you're filing a formal complaint with the state department of insurance there. a warranty company is probably regulated by them. may or may not sway them.

but happy to see it worked out.

After market warrantys are regulated by state attorney generals. To file a complaint is free, and you will be assigned "case worker" of sorts. ( or at least thats how it works in ohio) In ohio the office is in columbus.

Document EVERY thing, And if you live in ohio RECORD YOUR PHONE CALLS

Been there, done that, GOT PAYED!
