My exhaust seems to back fire or pop sometimes when I shift and when coming to a stop putting back to neutral.

Try disconnecting the airpump (gray connector) and see if it goes away, if it does it's your emissions eqipment, if not, it's your mixture (too rich)

Have you checked where the sound is coming from? Start it up and just go under the car. Maybe its coming from your cat?

You're sure that's fuel ?? A lot of times that's condensation (water)

I dont think he's talking about backfire, hence the popcorn description.

If it is bogging down, something is wrong. Get it checked out if you have the means.

My friend's old Sentra had some weird popcorn noise coming from the exhaust. The resonator was bad. Could also be the cat. (he didn't have one, just the resonator)

If it's coming from somewhere else then definetely get it checked out. Also, try disconnecting the airpump like Crosby said. I notice that when my airpump is connected I tend to get a lot of backfire. (I don't mind).
