Exhaust Gaskets

So I think I may know the answer to this but it has not been covered in any Googled threads that I could find... Can you reuse OEM exhaust gaskets? They are ridiculously priced! If not I will go ahead and order the Cosmo gaskets from Atkins Rotary.

Thanks!

I do not know an official answer, but I had about 2000 miles on mine, an exhaust leak had burned up one of them. Called Ray to order a new set and he said I should be fine reusing the non damaged ones.

New is always best but if they are not cracked you can usually get away with reusing them.

They ARE stupid-expensive, aren't they?

As noted above, you CAN re-use them...conditionally speaking. If they've been subject to any leaking at all, they'll typically be burned and unusable.

When I did my rebuild I just bit the bullet and bought new...ouch!

Thanks guys. Mine are in perfect condition but I have always been one that just bites the bullet and pays for it... but 200.00 in gaskets is just stupid! That being said I get all my Mazda parts at cost through the dealer so I may just change them.

I've been using these with no issue, ~3000miles.

Would I assume that you are using these in the exhaust and not the manifold to engine?

Yea, oops I didn't know you were talking about the exhaust manifold gasket, in that case I just re-use the old one.

Do you have an leaking issues? My gaskets look like they are in great shape. What do you torque the bolts to?

None that I'm aware of, no exhaust fumes or weird smell in the bay.

Plus I cleaned up the old gasket best I could before re-installing them.

Because they are multi-layer steel and only designed for the fd. Nothing else really stands up to the heat.

My cost for the FD is 160 for two plus tax. That a 35% discount off list from the dealer.

I have read a ton about these blowing out quickly. I will reuse my OEM gaskets or just bite the bullet and get new OEM.

Which is the correct way of fitting these. Flat face against the block or flat face against the manifold?

Cheers Mark

The TII manifold gaskets work just fine, and they are priced SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than the FD ones... Just something to think about

I have purchased 2 Cosmo ones for mine and fitting them tomorrow and a decent price. It's just a case of which way round they go now

I'll have to dig through my receipts when I get home. A quick quote and answer to that would be to just give Ray Crowe a call though (I buy ALL my OEM stuff through him, it's lovely to see the Cost/List Price/Customer Price break down on the receipts ). I've yet to find an OEM supplier that's anywhere close to his prices.
