should last at least 3-5 years as the pressure shouldn't leak out. Of course mine is probably a busted "dummy guage" - but if I "test discharge" it to verify that will ruin it.

Ummm, you've still got the el cheapo stuff. You need to buy one with a METAL neck. Anything less is a toy that you can't depend on.

I think that new one I just bought has a metal neck. I know .. "autozone special" but it did seem to be of good quality.

If it's the one with the pressure gauge in your picture in the lounge - no. Take it back and get a refund.

The problem with the plastic necks is that they contract and expand dramatically with changes in the interior of your car. They leak very slowly and it's insidious. Over the course of a year (depending where you live) we are talking about swings of 100F or more.

They might be OK to leave under the sink in your house where temps are very stable - but I still would never trust one - ever.
