Engine's back in but now got a serious problem with the clutch.

Spent all day getting my engine back together from the rebuild but when i started it up, i could hear a very loud rattling noise coming from the bell housing.

When i first started my engine rebuild, i removed the engine and left the gearbox in the car, but i undid the slave cylinder hose and the pedal went to the floor. I have tried to bleed the clutch today by using a jar with fluid in and a mate pumping the pedal, but after tightening the bleed screw, the pedal is still on the floor with fluid pouring out the inspection plate on the gearbox. Any ideas??

You have one of two problems:

1. You didn't have the slave cylinder piston onto the clutch fork. Open up the inspection plate see if you can fish it out; undo the slave cylinder; put it back in the slave cylinder and make sure it goes into the little dent for it on the fork.

2. You didn't attach the wedge collar properly which resulted in the fork pushing out of the way and the piston for the slave cylinder falling out as above.

Just got a reply with similar answers to yours. When i took the hose off the slave cylinder, i pressed the clutch pedal. This has hopefully popped the cylinder out and not cuased any damage. Fingers, legs and toes crossed!
