Very nice piece of engineering. A non-factory harness/strut bar that actually works with the factory interior without having to cut it up.

I too would like to know this as I may eventually use them with a more aggressive suspension. Also it'd be nice to see the final anodized black but thats minor. Looks good, I'm in.

Heath, don't worry, this is a must for me as well.

Yes, that will be available. I mentioned this is post 124, but you may have missed it:

There will be an added-cost option for custom built hatch cover mounts. I do not have a prototype in hand, but they basically consist of precision-bent aluminum rod, machined to work with this bar. The standard finish for these will be the same black anodizing. This option will go for $35.

I don't have one on hand, so I can't give you a guaranteed answer.

However, according to Tein's website, they "changed motor size from 45 to 35." I'm assuming that this measurement is in mm and refers to the length of one side. If that's correct, then the maximum corner-to-corner dimension is 50mm (1.96 in), and it WILL fit inside the curved arc of the mounting brackets. Actually, if the measurement assumption is correct, the old style "45" motors will also work.

If someone has access to these, and can send my a picture or two along with some more accurate dimensions, then I'll be able to tell you more accurately whether they will fit or not.

I am a little confused, I thought you said it will not work with the hatch divider? I guess I misunderstood, it will not work when using the harness...

Let me try to clarify:

You are right, in order to attach the harness straps, the vertical plastic divider needs to be removed (it can remain in place when the harness straps are not attached). RotorMotor was asking about the horizontal cover that hides the cargo compartment when the hatch is closed. There WILL be mounts/hinges available for an additional $35 for those that wish to continue using the hatch cover.

Hopefully that answers your question.

it would be even better with the mounting bolt is longer.

From an engineering standpoint, it actually doesn't make any difference. There is still more than sufficient thread contact area. The bolt was specified at that length due to other dimensional constraints.

However, I'll be doing a few small design revisions, and this may be one area that I try to adjust some.

Very sharp!

So, I am looking at $375 for the bar, plus $35 for cargo lid attachment, plus $?? for shipping (Alaska).... Blows my $400 cap and I don't even get a red RX-7 emblem in the bar - blah.

Sigh..., now I have to get back on the street corner with my cardboard (Says "Own a 3rd gen RX-7, please help") and raise more cash.

Let me know if you get this thing in production, I'm interested if you decide on making them available to the community.

I'm sorry man, I really am trying to keep the cost as low as possible without going into the red.

Tell you what, I've looked over my figures, and I think that I can cover shipping charges to Alaska as well as Canada for this first production run (probably via USPS). I know that's not a lot, but every little bit counts. Unfortunately, those of you that reside in Hawaii or any other international country will still have to pay some additional shipping charges.

"If" they go into production is no longer a question. "When" they go into production is more accurate. And the answer to that is "soon"

Wow - seriously appreciated! Thanks.

Now about getting an emblem on the bar... I'm thinking using an emblem cutout for a mask, carefully sandblast to bare metal. Can't decide if I would leave it shiny or fill back in colored, maybe red. Course, if I'm going to color it maybe I should just forget the sandblasting. Or, maybe I should be thinking about how I am going to afford the harness

If I buy the quick release pins will it also come with the normal pins? I would assume since the bar isn't any cheaper then right? (This is fine with me I'd like two sets of pins.) Thanks
