Question Engine swap?

Okay, there is a car in my area that is clean but it has 116k miles on it and I need to know how much it will cost me to have a new engine put in it, and I mean total cost overall and possibly a time frame. I plan on driving it for a little while while I have all the engine work done while it is still out of the car. I want to go with the Apexi single turbo and any other work that will give it as many possible horses without reaking havok on the smog issue. That is another thing I need to know, for all of you out there in Sunny C-A-L what kind of problems do these modified rex's have in the smog check? Should I just assume that I will need to take this down south and find some crooked smog shop?
Any comments are appreciated!
Thanks!

Prices for engine rebuilds vary anywhere from $4k to $5k here in CA and take about a week on average. Before you even get to the sniffer, you'll probably already fail the visual inspection with a single turbo...

Are you doing it right or do you just want to get it running. Here are some number to consider when doing everything the "right way".

Rebuilt motor $2000-2300(base rebuild, no porting, A guy on the list is having a
special for $1800....)
Rebuild turbos $600-1200 (good idea when doing a motor, DITTO for many of
the things listed)
Clean injectors $100
New vaccum lines $50-100
New hoses $150
New exhaust gaskets $100-300
New plugs $30
New wires $35
New thermostat $10
New water pump $50-75
New Clutch $300-550
New belts $25-50
Clean radiator and oil cooler(s) $100

Get my point, that includes ZERO labor!
