Engine rebuild options!
Just an FYI -- While pricing rebuild kits from Atkins and other places, Ray Crowe @ Malloy Mazda informed me that he is now selling NEW motors built in Japan.
For $3600.
He says new housings, new rotors, new irons, new e-shaft. Pretty much new everything.
I ended up spending $3k on rebuild parts (most of that was new rotor housings at $1330). $600 more would have gotten me a motor that's already built, and that I wouldn't have had to worry about screwing something up on.
He said shipping to NY would have been about $180 each way, and it has to go to a business as truck freight to homes is outrageous.
So if you're looking for options and you're going to keep stock porting, give him a call and see what he can do for you. He DOES need a core, but it doesn't have to be un-opened.
Oh, and another thing -- Atkins charged me around 2% on top of my order for a payment processing fee. I paid with credit card, as there was no other option, and since they use PayPal they pass on a little bit of the surcharge. I'm pretty sure it's less than half of the fees that are taken out of the payment, so it's not really a big deal but I would have liked to know about the fee beforehand. Granted it was only $58 on my $2872 order, but every bit counts to me.
On the same note, I might have bearing removal/installation tools for sale in a week or so.
