Engine rebuild in a one-car garage?

I'm planning how to do a rebuild in my small one-car garage. I think the only way I'll have enough space for the longblock teardown is to pull the engine and back the car out onto the driveway and move it back in once the engine is done. See pic (house is finished now). That way I'll have a little space for an air compressor, the engine stand, and hoist.

The driveway has a slope though. The e-brake ought to get me out safely (will the regular brakes still be boosted?), but getting up the slope back in won't be easy. Winch?

Suggestions please.

Dave

Don't have another location. Pretty much the garage or nowhere.

Doesn't sound like it should be a problem, just get three of your fat lazy friends over and you should be able to push it back in inless you live on top of a very step hill.

when your done rebuilding your motor, you can always bring it over to the car and install it in the driveway. The install shouldnt take to long if you know what your doing. Ive heard of people taking out and puting motors back in, in around an hour each. I dont see any pic by the way.

damn forum

I've tried the pic 5 times now. One more.

Anyway, the driveway isn't flat enough to raise the car safely. The garage is really the only flat place to lift the car and hook the engine up properly.

You're good to go. Pull the engine in the garage, back the car out (your brakes will still work), and do the engine swap / rebuild work in the garage. I did mine in a 2 car garage, with the car on one side and crap on the other side. More than enough room.

I'll just get some people together to push it up the hill when it's time to put the engine back in.

I pulled mine in a one car garage, I have a good amount of space but its still pretty small. I couldn't move the car out because my garage sits on a hill. You probably could pickup the short block with someone else and move that around, maybe even the long block if you get 3 people or so. Just dont drop it.

I pulled mine out in a one car garage in an apartment complex. But I had someone else do the rebuild.
