Engine rebuild dilemma

Alright, having established that I want to go Single turbo and with seals already gone on my 33K miles imported Rx7 from Japan I was considering the rebuild and conversion at the same time.

Being in the UK And with everything double the cost from the US, I went and spoke to Mick from Hurley engineering www.hurleyrotary.com and I told him exactly what I want. The qoute was £750 labour (that's $1492 USD) + £2250 for the engine ($4477.50 USD) all plus taxes which comes to £3525 ($7014.75 USD) and then there will also be some cost towards custom jobs for the turbo conversion as well .. Also he won't give any warranties as says I'm asking for race spec engine but if it was standard rebuild then they would offer either 2 years warranty or 12K miles.

After some consideration, Im thinking of just getting a used engine as I can get some engines below 30K miles for around £1200 give or take ($2388 USD) pay for the engine install and turbo conversion at the same time. I then would take my own engine back and attempt rebuilding it my self at a later time.

Would it also be cost effective or sensible to consider sending the engine to the US for rebuild? I have seen some people do it with other cars!!!!

Your feedback and recommendation on this will be much appricated ...

After going through my project, I now have a different opinion about modifying engines. I'm now thinking of just using stock engines. It's much easier to deal with when/if you pop one. You just pull it out and plug another on in its place. No worrying about getting it ported, expensive seals, etc... basically, just disposable engines.
