Engine Issues At Low Revs

Hi.

Im having an issue where my engine will stutter and occasionally stall after dropping below 1000rpm.

When i start the car cold it will jump to around 2500rpm at idle and this will slowly drop as it gets up to temperature. Once it does it settles around 1100rpm. Its runs fine and this is where it will idle for the first few miles.

The problem happens after driving for a while. The temperature gauge doesn’t read any different but when coming to a stop the engine will start to try and idle around 900rpm. Once it drops below 1000rpm the engine will start to stutter and sound as if it is going to stall and occasionally it will. After trying to idle at 900rpm for a few seconds and stuttering it will jump back up to 1100rpm where it will settle and start running fine again

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Once up to temperature the temperature gauge will settle just under halfway and thats where it stays. When it starts trying to idle at 900rpm is random. The car can be up to temperature for sometimes 15mins before it starts trying to idle below 1000rpm. It normally happens as well after restarting the car very shortly after turning it off. (Within a few minutes)

I have noticed the oil pressure drops with the revs and when idling at 1100rpm it is almost at the bottom of the gauge, barley of the bottom line. I don't know if this is normal or what the oil pressure should be?

Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you have a problem with either your TPS or the thermalwax (or both). Normal idle is not 1000 rpm, if you have a mostly stock car it should be around 720 rpm.

Ok. How would i go about diagnosing the problem and then fixing it.

I know little about the inner workings of the engine so wouldn't know where to start. The car is going to be a bit of a learning process for me.
