Engine idle between 2000-2600RPM
Engine idle between 2000-2600RPM
Hi there. I'm posting this in behalf of a friend in Portugal that also has a FD with the engine out. Keep in mind that I don't know much about mechanic, I'm just translating what he asked me.
How can the rotor pressure be measured?
After 6 years with the engine stopped, my friend's mechanic tried to put the engine working. After a few tries it started and according to him the noise was ok, nothing strange.
Afters, at second try, the mechanic decided to push to much the throttle, "like a burn out" and while on idle the RPM are between 2000-2600.
What options does he has?
Thank you.

A high idle is a vacuum leak, plain and simple. There's somewhere between the throttle body and the motor that air is getting in. Either the throttle plates aren't closing fully or something else is open allowing air in.

Yes make sure the throttle cable and cruise control are set correctly. There should be 1 to 2 mm of free play in the cables. Use a pressure tester or spray carburetor/brake cleaner to find vacuum leaks.
Thanks for the answers.
He told me that, while the car is parked without shift engaged, if he presses the throttle up to 3000RPM and stops his foot there, the oscilation starts to happen, putting the RPM between 3000-3600.

def check tps. When mine was whack, rpms would stick between shifts. Meaning if I shifted at 5000, then clutch in for next gear, the rpms stayed at 5000. Of course it would drop down eventually but it would stick long enough between gears.
It was the tps.
