Angry Engine Fire!!!!! Holy Crap!!!!!

started warming the car up, then came back like 4 minutes later. there's white smoke comming out from under the hood. pop the hood, turn off the car and boom!!! fire comming out from under the manifold and in the turbo area! took 3 minutes to put out. what am I looking for? I havn't gotten in there yet, but I"m guessing it's a seal of some sort. anything specific that is known to cause this?
I sure hope my vac system is intact!

You shoulda had the recalls done!!
you're probably going to have to have lotsa parts replaced,
but your very lucky you were there when it happend!
you might not need a whole rebuild

High mileage cars start having leakage problems of the fuel pulsation dampener which is the fuel inlet side for the primary injectors holder/rail.

For all high mileage(60k plus) engines being worked on or rebuilt, it is a must to replace it! I have been doing this on customer cars for the last two years. Have found two with leaks whose owners were lucky.

This had been mentioned last year on the big list by me and maybe even on one of these forums. Many FC owners have know about this because they were the first to have the problem.

Of course, newbies would not know.

i HAD SOMETHING VERY SIMILAR TO THIS FIRE HAPPEN TO ONE OF MY OTHER CARS. the same day I had installed new injectors. well while installing them some fuel dumped out of the rail. no way to avoid this really. whell I got side tracked during the installation and did some other things. 2 her later when I started the car, the spark from the starter solenoid on the starter lit the spilled fuel. I went down the road and drove the car. lucky for me I smelled rubber burning and headed back home to figure out what it was. I got the fire out with a hose pretty quickly and in 3 hrs I had everything burned replaced. I got lucky.
what Im saying here. remember to rinse out the engine after playing with the fuel line stuff. Had I hosed it down I wouldn't have had this little problem

If you got the fire out quickly you'll probably need vacuum lines, wiring harness and some misc. If it burned a little longer count on replacing injectors and oil metering lines, ACV, etc. Burned much longer you'll need LOTS of stuff.

I just fixed an engine burn car, I've got pics. PM me if you want to see them.

scarry stuff

Avoided the same mess a few weeks ago. I just had a new motor put in the car and pointed out to the tech I smelt fuel leaking with the old motor. After my new motor was installed and they told me they could not find a leak, I put about 525 miles on in and had my pulsation dampaner fail on me in bumper to bumper traffic. Thanks to the information on the forum I knew I should shut it down and call the flat bed .I was leaking enough fuel that I saw the fuel gauge drop like a rock. Almost smelt like someone was filling the interior with fuel .My fd is in the shop now and it looks like the injector seals are spent also. Hope your nightmane turns out ok .
