engine code 16, o2sensor, egr, or both?

which the hell one is it. For a while I was assuming it was the egr. Replaced egr and still had the code....so I checked the egr harness...it was ok. I looked in the manual and the bar description for the egr shows a ten space and six thin spaces and the o2 code shows the same 16....but shown as a 17 code.

So i go out to the car and unplug the o2 sensor...bump the engine and my 16 code still there. I unplug the map sensor and a 13 code shows...which is correct. So the 16 code must be the o2 sensor. What harm could have been done from driving with the o2 code. I seem to be running rich from the smell of the exaust.

Someone please enlighten me.

Those codes must be for a 93 because my 94 shop manual shows different numbers for the codes.

What harm or what serious problems can come from a faulty o2 sensor.
