engine break-in period

Hey guys, gonna pick my car up this weekend and don't want all this money I have recently put in my car to go up in smoke. I have heard very many different break-in schedules. Some say 500 miles others go up to 2000 miles. As detailed of a schedule as possible would be appreciated. Such as oil changes, rpm limits, etc. Thanks in advance. I don't think my mods matter to this, but if they do let me know and I will post them.

Well, I've already broken in one motor and am preparing to break in a second one. Here's what I have been told to do:

first 500 miles: revs below 4k, no boost....that means none. just have to be very careful with the throttle

change oil, 10w30 dyno juice winter, 20w50 dyno juice summer.

next 1000 miles: revs below 6k, minimal boost, less than 5.

change oil, 10w30 Mobil1 winter, 15w50 Mobil1 summer.

That's what I did with my last motor (a brand new one) and (after blowing it at 12k miles) it looks perfect after taking it apart. Just needs 5 apex seals

I've heard that some boost is good during break-in, but decided to follow the above schedule. I'm not trying to start a debate about synthetic vs. regular oil either; just posting what's worked for me :p

Follow your rebuilder's WRITTEN advice on this one and keep a daily DETAILED written journal until their specified break-in period ends. If you don't you'll have absolutely no recourse when it grenades prematurely. Judges have no sense of humor when rotaries sieze due to abuse.....
My advice (which isn't worth a damn since I am NOT an expert) - GO slow with no boost for the first 500 miles, then constant revs for 30 second intervals on flat ground. 30 seconds at 3500, 30 seconds at 6,000, 30 seconds at 4500 - you get the idea. You want to create pressure and heat to seat everything but not heavy torque loads on new parts. Drive it until it cools down after this drill. Wait until 1,000 miles for boost, and change the oil and filter at 500. Then......zoom, zoom. Oh. BTW, use dino juice only, it will NEVER
break in with synthetics. Be kind to it for the first 5K since that's how long IMHO it takes minimum to break in completely.

RON'S post is very similar to the Break In schedule MARIAH recomended for my HAYES rebuit motor, but they also changed oil after their inital set-up & tuning of the engine (abt 50mi with lots of stationary running - maybe 2 hr total) then oil change and new MAZDA OEM filter at 500, 1500, and 3000 miles, then at 3000 mi intervals using CASTROL 20-50 (CA summer time) NO BOOST until first oil change, then 4500rpm & 5psi boost limit to second change and easy driving & 6psi boost limit untill 3000mi. My motor seems to be getting stronger still even after 12k miles & it did take at least 6k mi to feel totally broken in.

Another thing you might want to consider (and this is in your owners manual) - try not to keep the revs stable. In other words, don't drive at the same rpm for a long period of time.
