emissions results!

well the first time i went to get emissions test i failed like a mother.

applicable mods i guess are:
-pettit mild street ported motor
-dp
-stock cat and airpump
-pettit ecu (tuned really rich, shoots flames with mp)

anyway when driving i usually get a few pops when i let off the gas and it smells like gas so i knew i was running too rich.

these are my first time results:
.........................HC............... CO................. NOx.............. CO2
State Standards 1.0000 GPM... 20.0000 GPM... 2.2000 GPM... N/A
Readings.......... 2.0531 GPM... 23.0858 GPM... 0.4759 GPM... 420.6018 GPM
........................FAIL.............. FAIL............... PASS............ N/A

well the CO failed by a tiny bit and the HC was twice the limit. ive always been afraid of putting stuff in the gas tank but i met wargasm at a meet a few weeks ago and he told me about how he passed emissions and how he knew all the tricks. So i PMed him when i got home and he gave me the link to his tutorial.

i changed my plugs with fresh bur9eqp's last week. today i went to home depot and bought two quarts of S-L-X Denatured Alcohol. My gas tank was pretty much on empty and after funneling in the alcohol i filled up to a quarter tank.

went to the emissions testing place and the lady didnt know how to open the gas tank. she had opened the trunk. i explained that it was the same lever just a different direction. she didnt want to drive the c... ar so she told me to get in and do an idle test. YES!! had to rev it to 2500 and keep it there, for some reason she told me it was fine when i got it to 2100 so i just kept it there hoping it would shoot less crap out the back. then it was just idle test. passed by a huge margin.

......................... HC........... CO........... NOx... CO2
State Standards.. 220 PPM... 1.20 PCT... N/A... 6.0 PCT
Readings............ 6 PPM...... 0.49 PCT... N/A... 14.00 PCT
......................... PASS....... PASS........ N/A.... PASS

im thinking that the alcohol did help. but i have heard idle test is much easier.

to all the other newbies, dont worry about putting paint store stuff in the gas tank. just make sure you research it first and know what your doing and dont get any on your paint job.

thanks wargasm for your knowledge and experience.

Cool, but why did you change the measurements? Or is that what they gave you each time? So much for standards.

The first test was the "IM-240" dyno type test where they drive your car on rollers and follow a simulated driving experience. Those are measured in Grams Per Mile.

The second test was the idle/rev test where they just hold one steady rpm and measure. That is the OLD test and is measured in Parts Per Million and Percents. I don't know how closely they correlate, and the standards probably are a bit different

Good job!
