Electrical Q: ABS not working after HID install

Hey guys,

My ABS stopped working last night after I installed some HID's in the fog light positions. I was trying to install an Automotive Relay using the fog light switch to trigger it. I think the relay was bad. I tried every combination of hooking up the wiring to the relay. I ended up blowing 5-6 30 AMP fuses in line to the positive terminal. At one point the dash lit up as if the key was turned to ACC, except the keys weren't in the ignition - not good. The car drove fine.

I ended getting the lights to works with out the relay. But the ABS is not working - ABS Light on and wheels lock up.

I checked the 60 AMP fuse in the engien bay and it looks fine. Are there any other fuses or relays to check?

My radio also will not power up, but that wasn't working before the HID install. Which fuse protects the radio? I only found the Radio Relay, but don't know how to check it.

Do you guys have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this stuff??

Thanks,

John

They are easy to install. It's just that my $6 relay wasn't working so I was trying diffferent connection possibilities that kept blowing fuses. I hope I didn't fry anything

Not sure if this will help, but consider getting a fuse that can support more current, I'd imagine the HIDS kit would need just a bit more, especially when igniting the bulb. I had similar problems when hooking up a few kits to my lude. Another thing to think about is a way to connect it directly to your battery.

Thanks for your response. I got the HID/Driving lights working fine. I just hooked them up to switch that I ran previously to run fan on my SMIC. It's the ABS that is not working now. I need to recheck all my fuses and relays. How do you check relays anyway? Are they mazda specific or universal?

At some point when you continually blow something up you need to stop and figure out what you're doing wrong. Letting the smoke out of the electrical system is always bad.
