Electrical problem (Did search)

Left the house last Friday for the track. After driving for about 10-15 minutes with my lights on, I started smelling something burning (electrical). Pulled over, could not find the source. Kept driving, then finally all my Greddy gauges, odometer and radio lights went out. The Greddy gauges were also non functional.

When I take the lights all the way off, the Greddy gauges, odometer and radio lights all come on and the Greddy gauges start to function (they don't light up, because the light is off).

When I put the park or headlights on the Greddy gauges, odometer and radio lights all go OFF.

With the lights ON or OFF the cruise control, lighter, speedometer and stock gauges work. Checked all my fuses, no problem. All the wires from the gauges are ok, because the gauges are working when the lights are off. Checked the ground wires, they seem ok too.

Could it be a relay switch????? Any thoughts on what will cause the odometer and radio lights to go off when the light go on. I figure if I find the source to that prob, by default I will find the problems to the gauges.

I do love the weird **** so....
Anyway... my 3rd Gen is in the body shop now due to an New Years Day Accident... and the car's almost together.... Here's a link if you wanna have a look. http://members.bellatlantic.net/~kar...iles/frame.htm

Presently, the dash lighting is doing something weird in that, when I have the lights off and the ignition key "ON" my "AWD" idiot light stays on. The nose isn't on the car yet so those plugs of the headlights and the headlight motors arn't hooked up. Also, my A/C isn't functioning either to include the fan motor. Now, the accident was severe enough to cause the air bag to deploy and so the body shop guys had to get under the dash. Mainly to replace the wire harness to the headlights that was damaged in the accident. I guessing that a plug isn' t connected. Like you my fuses are good and every thing else seems OK...

When I turn on my parking lights, the rear lights come on so do the dash lights. The "AWD" light goes off. My point is that as I chase this gremlin down I may stumble across something that might help you...

Will let you soon... I'm supposed to pick up the car this Saturday... I'll believe that when I see it.

Well, took my dashboard off last weekend to fit some stuff. Put it back on and all seemed fine until I switched the headlights on - then the all the dashboard illumination went out. A guy on another list immediately diagnosed it as me not having re-connected the dashboard lights dimmer "roller" switch, which it was!

Took the dashboard apart again today, connected the dimmer and now they work fine. I'd check that dimmer switch is OK.
