Electrical problem
Alright I searched and this kind of an off the wall question so here it goes.
For the last half of the winter my car will not turnover all I get is a click, tried jumping the car to eliminate the possibility of the terminals being too loose and not giving the starter enough current.
Well today I had a brainstorm while i was at work and thought this:
The previous owner had a subwoofer box in the back...well before he sold it to me he had taken the amp + box out and left the wires, bare i might add laying under the carpet in the rear hatch....now the fuse to the battery terminal is still hooked up..my question if the positive wire coming from the fuse on the batt terminal was touching a good "ground" under the carpet could this cause not enough current to get the starter turned over due to some of it being let out through the grounded out wire?
Im asking cause im at work and i won't be able to test my theory till I get out...so umm any opinions or am I just an idiot?

The amp wire, if it touched ground, would either blow the fuse on that wire or melt the wire and possibly catch your car on fire. I would either remove that wire or disconnect it from the negative battery terminal.
Possible culprits for the problem are the ignition switch or the starter itself.
