Clutch Pedal Sticking

My clutch pedal just started sticking to the floor sometimes. Any idea what it could be?

Clutch master cylinder, slave, or clutch line. Same thing happened to me, my clutch pedal started sticking, I had to pump it up to get pressure and it made shifting extremely hard. Mine just ended up being the line so it was a cheap fix.

mine did this the first time I tried to drive the car after I had it down for about 3 months. I had to manually lift the pedal off of the floor. However, it only happened once. I've driven it ~750 miles since then and no problems. Does yours do it every time?

Do you lose clutch fluid? Check your lines, if they leak your pedal will stick. If you leave the car in gear at a light does it roll like the clutch is engaging?

Clutch pedal sticking to the floor can def. be an airbubble in the system, or it could be the clutch fork which snapped (common when ppl put on aftermarket heavy duty clutches). I'd say bleed the system, see if the prob goes away. If not, put the car on a lift, and through the inspection plate, see if you can see if the clutch fork is intact. My guess is it's broken.

Replacing it is a bitch, cuz you gotta drop the tranny (just like you're changing out a clutch). But the part itself is $65 from Malloy Mazda. Make sure you get a NEW one, because Mazda has recently become aware of this problem, and started producing upgraded and stronger clutch forks.

Okay, the clutch pedal doesnt stick all of the time, in fact it stopped doing it but I am losing fluid. Guess I gotta put it on the ramps and start looking. When it was sticking it felt as if it was disengaging/engaging the clutch with the pedal really close to the floor.

Like I said earlier its probably something with the clutch hydraulic system if you are losing fluid. Check the line, master cylinder, and slave for any leaks. Bleed the clutch too like FDnewbie said as well, that might help you find the leak as well, plus get all air bubbles out.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the only soft line in the clutch system is the line from the brake fluid resivor to the clutch master cylinder.

Just trying to figure everything out before I start looking.

I believe that is correct from looking at the Workshop manual , and that was the line on mine that had a tear in it and was leaking.

So, did you just remove it and bend up a new line?

The RP line is a soft line. Is it used to replace a soft line that I dont see in the drawing or does the soft line replace the hard line?

It could also be the gaskets inside the master or slave cylinders. My Subaru (2000 Impreza 2.5RS) had problems similar to this, which were solved by changing out the line and flushing the fluid.

Good luck,
