Efini twins or BNR Stage 3's

That's my question. I'm adding a Greddy standard mount IC, other than that, here are my mods:

I usually don't tell people to search, but this has been discussed about 97 gazillion times previously.

Basically, the difference is immense. Just because both sets of turbos are "twins", they are two totally different beasts. The "Efini" twins are a minor upgrade to the stock S6 twins. The BNR Stage 3s are far, far from that. You can make big numbers, as seen by Goodfella.

when even "mr. BNR" is telling you that, it must be true

Like everyone else said, if you want to retain the sequential system (Or non seq. for that matter) and still make great power, it's BNR's all the way.

I love non sequential with my BNR stage 2s (and Garfinkle manifold ), I would NEVER consider sequential again, at least not using the horribly complex '93-'95 FD system

apparently Bryan is working to meld the high boost potential of the Stage 3s with the quick spool and torque of the Stage 2s....if he is successful, it should be awesome

Immense difference !!!! Big numbers???
Here we go again....

'99 FD/Efini twins actually came with smaller compressor wheels vs the 93-98 FDs, therefore having less airflow at any given boost. S6 twins should always make more power over teh Efini ones.
However, they did get abradable compressor housings, improved Y-pipe and I believe different turbine impellar design (same diameter as S6-FD) resulting in a faster spool up and increased efficiency @ stock boost of 11.5-12psi (280hp).

On BNR's website it says, "Do not use synthetic oil with these turbos due to the carbon seals!"

What happens to the BNRs if you run synthetic oil?

hehe read the quote before you respond to it! the post you quoted was talking about an immense difference between the efini turbos and the BNR units. not the efini and the S6 turbos.

With the carbon seals and synthetic oil people have had trouble with blowby and oil smoke.

On my set, I specified dynamic seals to aid in spool-up and I havent had a problem since venting my crankcase with an oil catchcan, despite running Idemitsu synthetic.

Hey rich, if you dont vent the case like you did what prob should you be looking for, smoke? I have the dynamic seals on my stage 3's but see no ill effects.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That was sarcasm towards the BNRs if you missed it...

Maybe you need read his quote again....
In a performance perspective he's placing the S6-twins at the bottom with the Efini-twins as an upgrade followed by the BNR-twins with the claimed "immense diference".
I simply explained why the Efini-twins are not an upgrade as many here seem to think they are.

As far as BNRs....
We have alot more S-6 twins making close to 400rwh(one breaking 400rwh) then BNRs making over 400rwh.
They're tapped out just like the S6 twins....exhaust flow retricted.
Not sure where people see an immense difference !!!!!

I remember the days Jason was running a T-78 (17-18 psi I believe) on a PFS purple computer with about 425 rwhp, and everyone was like "wow, huge numbers"

now 550-600 seems fairly common on the single turbo forum....BUT those guys are running 28 psi of boost

Why the hate on the BNR's or other twin turbo set ups? You might see 600+hp on those single turbo RX-7's but how far into the RPM gauge does that power actually develop? I'd rather have my power immediately then having to pretend I'm driving an RSX with it's almight 210hp at redline. High horsepower single turbos that just seem like for drag strip use only and not very practical at all...my 2 cents. :p

Well, I see an immense difference. It's simple physics JD. I assumed you were aware of the particulars of Bryan's product (comp/turbine size relative to stock), but please peruse this link:

http://www.bnrturbos.com/3rdGen.htm

Also, there are/have been approximately 13,000 sets of stock twins in the U.S. I don't think Bryan has sold that many sets of turbos. So, more stock twins making 400 rwhp (and I have only heard of three over the years) than BNRs making 400 rwhp is kind of a silly comparison in my opinion.

I made close to 400 rwhp at only 15 psi, and run around the streets at 17-18 psi on pump gas 100% of the time, no 'low' boost stuff. These turbos will withstand roadrace duties at this boost level as well. None of this applies to the stock twins. We're not all drag racers here.

Just wanted to throw in an alternate viewpoint!

take it easy man ,
Rich

So with the bnr's in non sequential mode what rpm do you hit full spool? You guys have to understand the 13b-rew is the first rotary that makes any low end torque. This is entirely produced by the twin turbo setup. One of the really cool things about this car is when you learn to make the twin turbo set up work properly.

There's no hate on the BNR's or other twins in my part, but let's keep it real here.
How many guys have purchased the Efini twins thinking of them as an upgrade to the S6 twins because they were rated @ 280hp ???
Bryan has put a hell of alot of effort into improving and offering his BNR's for those that want to keep the "OEM" twin turbo compact setup. He has gone as far as using bigger "complete rotating assemblies" in machined housings for added flow and reliability, however even those turbos could only flow "x" amount thru the oem housings when pushed to the limit.

Quick Reply: Efini twins or BNR Stage 3's
