Efini?

Ok, I know a good bit about RX-7s, but I still wanna learn (as I often look at em as a replacement for my car). Ive seen Efini stuff, but it seems that they are really rare. What exactly is an Efini? Something only available in japan? Thx.

so question: are efini clones looked down upon in the RX-7 world? silvia clones are uncommon for 240s, but usually dont get the whole "oh man, you ruined that car" that youd get with a Yenko clone in the fbody world.

Nah, we'd all have a full Efini conversion if we could

Efini is to Mazda as what Lexus is to Toyota.

Efini was never introduced to the US market.

They have nice Y-pipes though.

All RX-7s were "Efini" RX-7s from 1996 to 1998, as I recall. Naturally, we didn't get them in North America. I think there was also an Efini 2nd gen. I seem to recall seeing it in the Yamaguchi book. The Efini "Y" pipe mentioned and other Efini updates were just updates made to the production RX-7. You can buy the emblems from RP and others, including the wheel centre caps.

Japanese companies have a different way of operating in Japan than they do here. Honda for example, has three "channels" of dealerships: Primo, Clio and Verno. All of the cars are badged as Hondas but each channel has its own lineup. Some models are sold through more than one channel. The Insignt for example, is sold through all three. So to get an Accord you go to a Honda Clio dealer, but if you want a CR-V then you go to a Honda Verno dealer.

Efini was one of Mazda's dealer channels. Others that no longer exist are Autozam and Savannah. It just so happened that Mazda actually put separate badging on cars sold through different channels as opposed to Honda who did not. The RX-7 was sold originally through Savannah and then later, Efini dealers. Mazda has since consolidated its Japanese lineup and no longer has separate channels so the FD became just a plain old Mazda when the Efini brand died.
