Effects of altitude on A/F

Here's the scenario: (1)FD w/DP/CB/Intake/SMIC Upgrade. At Sea level, this may require additional fuel controllers. But what about Denver, at 5280 ft? The lower percentage of oxygen in the air is enough to add 1 full second to any car's 1/4 ET. (I heard somewhere subtract 10 hp for every 1000 ft elev.) I'm thinking that the FD is tuned rich to begin with; the altitude, in essence, enhances the richness. I may be able to get away with these mods and NO PFC/other FC. What do you folks think? Any input from high elev. owners?

Just trying to recover some horsepower from the altitude difference.

Thanks!
Steve

It's not about running lean with those mods, it's about hitting fuel cut because of the increased boost. If you restrict boost to 10 psi, you can run nearly all the bolt-ons with the stock ecu.

I've talked to "Cam" at Pettit. And he says he's got customer's that run 16 - 17 pds of boost at the higher altitudes. With the correct mods. IC/ Pettit ECU/Intake/exhaust

I'm at a elevation of aprox. 2400 ft. And was running 15 psi of boost and with Octane boost with no problems.
But at the race track w/ all the runs at WOT. I'd use race gas. I never had the courage to add more boost.
I like to add a wideband but do not have the funds $$$.

You don't need to worry about altitude. Your FD will not suffer a power loss like non-turbos cars do. I know a guy who lives in Boulder and the FD's run there just like they do at sea level. The turbos might be working harder so the intake might be hotter, but the end result is about the same. He also wideband tested and needed about the same amount of fuel as everyone else at sea level, no big difference.

At that elevation, you can beat Vipers and Z06 Vettes with just a 2-3 mods. You'll love it!

PM me if you want to talk to this guy directly about the altitude stuff.
