ECU stored codes read out. how to fix?

Hi all,

I just recieved a CEL today and I am not sure how to fix the issues.

I get 3 codes and they are:

12 Throttle sensor - full range
18 Throttle sensor - narrow range
40 Solenoid valve - purge control (auxilary port valve)

Any more insight on how to resolve the issues and what the mean would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried the KOKO test but it did not clear my ECU so they must be legit.

Thanks guys.

For codes 12 and 18 you need to adjust the TPS: http://www.fd3s.net/tps_adjustment.html
The voltages need to be in a certain range when the throttle is open and closed.

If you have a PFC you can read the voltages from the commander, alot easier to adjust than with a multimeter.

No idea about the code 40, sorry.

On solenoids, its basically just needing resistance on the completeled circuit. So, if you are getting a code for a solenoid, its only a few things that could be wrong:

1. Wiring problem (i.e. damaged wire on the harness side)
2. Bad solenoid

That worked out Perfectly! No more CEL from that. To bad I don't have a PFC.

I just used the good old multimeter on the TPS and adjusted the Air bleed screw and the other screw that pushes down on the throttle cable. That is taken care of!

Yeah the Good ol' Auto-Manual swap screws alot of things up that the Auto needs to work correctly. Lots of adjustments were made to get the car to run smoothly.

Automatic in an FD...

I have searched for the Purge Control solenoid's location in the forum and in the FSM but I am having difficulty tracking it down. Do you have any leads on its where abouts?

It sits right in front of the UIM, under/beside the oil filler neck, and under the throttle linkage. Yes, it's in an annoying spot, but what on an FD isn't?

BTW, what is the purpose of the purge control solenoid?

Yes, the TPS being out of wack can cause jerking/bucking.

It controls releasing of gas fumes back into the UIM for the evaporative control system.

The proper way to adjust the tps is to adjust the actual tps. You loosen the two screws on the tps and rotate it until its in spec. But, whatever works.

What is the symptom of a bad solenoid or lets say i leave it unattended. What happens or start to happen? Besides the CEL obviously.

TIA

Probably nothing. emissions might increase. the fumes might not get sucked out of the evap canister.

Crap the error codes have come back and wont go away. My TPS's Voltage is with in spec according to the FSM. I still have the codes 12 and 18. Does this mean that my solenoid is bad? What else could it be?

Yeah never mind I figured out the problem. My Wiring Harness is becoming brittle and cracking. I found that out when I messed around with the wires and it cleared the ECU. When I messed with the TPS wires on the harness the CEL came back and when I moved them in the other direction the CEL went off.

Just some FYI.
