You should be fine IF you can keep your boost at 9 psi. An upgraded ecu will allow higher boost, at a safer level.

 

I'm amazed you're only getting 9psi with that setup - seems like you should be running more.

Yeah, the big advantage is being able to run a more comfortable amount of boost with the fuelling to back it up.

Good thing that you're not crankin' the boost to the sky with those mods - that's a recipe for problems with the stock ECU.

yes you should be fine right now but if you do an upgrade on your IC then you should get the upgraded ECU

 

It won't matter as long as he keeps his boost at 9 psi, upgraded IC or not (he listed a boost controller as one of his mods). Although creep with the intake and MP could pose problems, controller or not...

 

The only mods I've done are the following:

1) Cheap Bastard intake;
2) JDM factory downpipe;
3) Greddy/Trust Free-flow muffler;
4) N-Tech free-flow CAT
5) M2 Stage III ECU

Do I still need to install a boost controller ?
