ecu delimma!! i want the best of both world's
i have a time frame i'm dealing with, so any help -w/out the normal "try searching" answer would really be beneficial.
i have the opportunity to buy a power fc and am now concerned after reading a couple of posts regarding the a/c and idle hunting. halfway through my project, i am at a stopping point with the option of buying a apex piece or the pfs pms. the guy with the pfs said that i won't encounter those problems like i would with the pfc. what to do!!
i have pettit ss dp/resonated mp, tanabe cb, upgraded fuel pump and injectors, plan on n-tech or m2 intake, and m2 med smic....oh yeah, with a reman that i'm going to streetport.
will the pms support all this, or will i have to suffer the a/c and idle gremlins for power fc. comfort and reliability are my main concerns.
what about the pettit unlimited? granted less flexibility than either, but, i'm sure the idle and a/c will work properly and i'm assuming you can get it with support for injectors and streetport....true or false.
experienced owners, please.

Like you I also have a 94, with the PFC I have no problem with the AC or hunting. My understanding is the AC problem only occurs with port installed AC. When you install the PFC you let it learn for 10 minutes or so at idle with no accesories on, then AC, then lights, then AC with lights. After this the idle should be smooth as long as your AFR isn't way off.

I don't know about the PFC or PFS problems.
However, if you are looking to run extra or enlarged injectors, you don't want to use an ECU like Pettit. You can get piggybacks to control the fuel, but from what I hear the car will still run like crap.
So, think about your goals with the car. If bigger injectors are in your plans, rule out the reprogrammed ECUs.

if you can get the power FC for a good price, i'd get that. I have the PFC PMC and I like it thus far because it is easy to use. The PFC might be a bit harder and not as user friendly. but the PFS ECU is a piggyback, while the power fc is not. The power fc also allows you to increase the injectors of the secondaries. but the PFC ECU only allows you to increase injectors if you do both pri and sec at the same ratios. The PFC also is better for single turbo setups.
I'd say get the PFC is you have the money and it's a good deal. I wouldn't get a programed ecu since it isn't flexiable nor is it specific for your car.

the guy i'm buying it(possibly) is selling me the power fc w/ commander and a brand new-in-box pwr radiator for $1400 shipped.
for the grampa, i assume port installed a/c means after it was imported...not factory in japan? how could one tell? pretty sure it original (japan installed, i mean)
what's the deal with boost control using the power fc? programming or do i have to buy an external controller piece?

most of the people that have A/C problems seem to have 93s, not 94 or 95s. Also, Chuck replaced his wiring harness and the A/C worked perfectly after doing so.
The PowerFC controls boost using the stock solenoids, you do not need a separate boost controller unless you start boosting over 16-17 psi.
Also, there are maps posted very similar to your setup that will get you in the ballpark. Once you get your engine broken-in, take your car over to KD Rotary for proper tuning of the PowerFC.

that's a long *** drive. what about ari in texas? i talked to a guy a while back here, (spyfish007) and he said that his friend has a dyno in nashville (3.5 hours away) and we talked about me buying one of his med smic and then tuning my car. i've never heard from him again. who knows, he might be dead.

Rotary Performance in TX also has an excellent reputation. My AST and downpipe were installed there.
Is Garland TX closer to you than eastern PA? Either way, you're right, it's a long drive, but worth it I think.

As for the long drive, I drove six hours each way to KDR - worth it. They have a datalogit making the tune much easier.

get the powerfc, it is much more flexible and you don't have to put up with the stock ecu foibles showing through -- 3k hesitation, etc. I know a few people that have traded the PFS PMS for the PowerFC and had no regrets.

I'm waiting to see how the AEM performs before making a decision. I don't want to have any air cond issues with my 92 Base FD. Besides the AEM looks more flexible.
