DynoTune Digital Boost Gauge

Has anyone had experience with this boost gauge? They have a very small rectangular version that takes up very little space.

I'm thinking of getting one if it's any good.

Personally, I would never use a digital boost gauge. It's so much easier to just glance at an analog needle. Digital gauges are ok for monitoring temps, but that's about it, IMO.

haha, this is one of the areas will will eternally disagree.

I used to have an analog gauge (autometer). I prefer my digital gauge that I have now.

There are advantages to both. Your brain will instantly get a sense of where you boost is quicker with the Analog, but its difficult to tell exactly. For example, I could not tell the difference between 12, 13 or 14 psi on my boost guage, it was a PIA. With the digital you know exactly where you are and its much better IMHO.

For diagnosing turbo problems such as transition, the analog gauge is better. I dont even think my boost gauge catches the transition as it happens so fast.

Rynberg, I actually agree with you. I race a Formula Continental in SCCA Nationals and all those gauges are analog round. However, there doesn't seem to be any place to put even a 2 1/16 round gauge without its being in front of something I want to see, or obstructing my outward vision (pillar pods), or being out of the line of sight (Mickey-Mouse ears in place of the center speaker).
However, I do want to get a boost gauge, and this one seemed like a good compromise between being able to see it and not obstructing other things.
So although I would rather have a round analog gauge, what I really want to know is any experiences anyone has had with this particular gauge's quality, company that makes it, etc.

DaveW,

As long as it reads vacuum (and the one you linked apparently does), then I don't think you'll have a problem.

BTW, the steering column pods aren't too bad. The only block the bottom of the tach which isn't too useful so that might be an option for you.

I have been running the center-pod gauges for over a year and I can tell you that they are VERY accessible to look at. It quickly becomes second nature and they don't block any part of your field of vision like the a-pillar gauges can. I run Frank's pod though, not Tri-Powers.

Rynberg & Mahjik, Thanks for your input. I am still considering what gauges to get and where to put them. If I decide not to get the subject gauge, I may do the center-pod.

Thanks, again.

If anyone does have experience with the subject gauge, I'd still like to hear it.
